Has anyone turned cast acrylic. I know they do it on wood lathes but what speeds and do you use regular tools? I want to use it to turn train parts. I think it will be better for resisting melting compared to the PVC i used in the past and I thinking it will sand better.
Google is your friend. Lots of hits on phrase “turning cast acrylic.”
One guy suggested 600 rpm and use Fabreze as a lubricant. Others just say slow. Other lubes suggested are vegetable oil and soapy water. Good luck.
Yeah I googled it. I was just hoping someone here had done it.

Plexiglas is Cast acrylic as I recall. Yes I have turned and milled many a part from Plexiglas. Slow speed;s standard tooling for the lathe and two flute end mills work for me. Very machine able IMO. I’ve made spacers, bushings, slotted plate for jigs and fixtures. Also fabricated several square and round headlights for Southern Pacific dismals with Plexiglas, worked great.
