Tunnel Portals - Easy with the right tools

Nice looking tunnels Alan. I suppose with your acquired skills you’ll be boring holes all over the place just so you can place another portal.

I saw that before Alan and it’s awesome. So are we jackin’ up Wards thread on page 2? Ok a quick whipped up portal out of left over tufboard…I don’t really like it but it was quick, easy and serves its purpose.

Feel free David, it’s all good.

I did pick up a 23g pinner from Harbor Freight. Unfortunately life is getting in the way of starting more projects. When I do get started there will be pictures.

In the meantime, let’s see more tunnel portals!

Great idea Richard, but it may produce grief from the neighbours. lol

While not exactly a tunnel, I whacked together this portal to trim the exit hole in the basement window from a couple of old weathered boards. Based on no prototype and horribly out of scale it looks a whole lot better then the cut plywood :S [url=photo.cvsry.com/Escape8-1024.jpg]

As much as I like the look of the wooden portals they probably would not look right on my RR. You can do so much with those wooden portal designs though.

Depends on era and location as well as prototype. WP still had a number of wooden portals in the sixties, maybe later. I believe the SP did also. I'm sure there were others.

Yeah I know.... My theme is Central PA is 1970's to current so my options are HUGE, however I'm pretending the original CVRR still exists with Geep dieselazation as it was a RR milestone before the turn of the century. It's pieces reside in the Smithsonian(the Pioneer) and the Stasburg Museum. NS now owns some of the still existing trackage. http://www.geocities.com/samcatdog2001/mech.html

NO real tunnels on this end of the line that I’m modeling but needed a tunnel thru the fence to contain my wife’s killer guard dog whom always seems to take a big dump in front flower garden when allowed to invade it while “Charriots of Fire” play in the background of his little Schipperkee mind !!!
Are we on page 3 yet!
I know it wasn’t intended this way but Good topic starter Ward!

Ken is dangerous with a pinner as he said so!
