Large Scale Central

⛏️Trying to be a Poppet Master (A Build Log of Sorts)

Does this thing have a name and has anyone seen a g-scale version of this? I need to add a pulley shaft to my poppet head and haven’t found a good picture of one.

I think it would be called a pillow block or plummer block, but I haven’t seen a gscale version.

Yes, pillow block bearing. These have a 10mm diameter shaft bore, 7mm bolt hole and the base is 67mm.
Found on Temu.

Bill, why not 3d print them in ASA or PETG? If you want them to turn (maybe motorize the bull wheels?), you can insert a nylon tube as a bearing surface, with an ID matching your brass rod.

Cliff,

Hot off the press!

I’ve been trying out a 0.6 nozzle on my printer and it’s much faster and there is little difference seen on the big stuff. But on the detailed parts such as NBW (nut, bolt, washers) it fails spectacularly.

So I re-printed the pillow block with 2.1mm diameter holes and just went with screws. I hope no one gets closer than 3.048 meters😁.

I spent a lot of time over-thinking this.

Onward…

Looks perfect, Bill. Looks like you’re also printing the door(s) & window(s)?

Cliff, I really should have printed the doors, but it was actually HO fencing from Temu.

I picked up some rust effect and crackling paint from Montana paints. I don’t have the crackle effect technique down pat yet, but it was fun to watch it develop.

Apparently more paint = bigger cracks.

At 3.048 meters it looks ok.

EDIT: The 3D printed widows are based on BD’s found on Printables.

Minor Pimping this week. I think I will have to go back to a 0.4mm nozzle if I need to print more NBW. These were new old stock.

All that early worrying and it’s now at the “if you squint it’s mint” , looks great now and no one will notice, besides back in those days they probably used cubits and a guy with a shorter arm that came in as a substitute one day is to blame
