Trip to OZ

I hope to make a trip to OZ ( Queensland) in Sept. and would like to check out some railroads (railways) there. I know it is winter but if you are have a railroad and are up for visitors let me know. I would like to show my OZ buddy what garden modeling is about.

Winter in Queensland? Hard to imagine. Look out for the red-back spider and them water snakes up in Daintree.

Hrmm. Seems to me that September is Spring here. Water Snakes? hah! No need to worry bout them. Harmless. However, of the ten most venomous snakes in the world on land?..we got seven of them. In Queensland you would want to look out for Red bellied Blacks, King Browns (related to Cobra) and Tiger snakes. But the nastiest of all and more so up there as we don’t get this friendly fella down here in Vic, is the Taipan. Real cute temper and a venom to match. Spiders? Red Back just wants to be your friend! Black Widow and Funnel Webs not so friendly. I would be more concerned that you don’t pick up the Cane Toads. Looks cute but the skin oozes some nasty crap.

I wasn’t going to reply as I’m afraid I don’t know anybody in Qld; I’m about two thousand miles south west of there. However as nobody else has so far… just over the NSW border is Tony Walsham, he of RCS fame, and he seems to know most of the players in that part of the world. He has a contact on his website, and he regularly posts on this forum. A PM to him might bring some results.

To pick up from Gant, in terms of local dangers in the waters off the coast is the most venemous creature on earth, the box jellyfish so be sure to seek local advice before going for a swim in the sea!

I’m in Sydney if you’re geting that far south. If you’re here in the 2nd half of September, you’re welcome to visit.

A suggestion is to email the LGB club of Australia - its members are in all states. So you could ask them if any of their members would be interested. Here’s their webpage…

James did contact me directly with a request for names, addresses and phone numbers. I replied that as Queensland is a pretty big state, an indication of exactly where James was going to visit, would be helpful.

Garden Railway layouts are few and far between south of Brisbane until you get to Newcastle in NSW. One notable exception of course is the extensive and highly detailed 1:20.3 logging layout owned by Lawrie Durant right here in Casino. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

The OZ plans fell through, but something else is in the works. Maybe?

James

Well then, I don’t have to warn you about drop bears.

What was I thinking… I forgot all about them.
