Large Scale Central

TrainWorld is NOT getting out of LS trains....

There…now let’s drop the other thread, and start the New Year on a positive note…

Gold Coast Trains, and it’s owner “Hans”, is still another good place to purchase model railroad equipment…and TrainWorld is intent on continuing to be a major dealer for all makes of Large Scale Railroad equipment

Happy New Year, to everyone, and our dealers that try to keep us happy.

Happy New Year Fred! (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

…now if we can shame others into dropping that negative thread…!!

…and start using this positive one to promote ways to get others interested in the hobby…

Fred, our (HO) club does some shows every year. The light up night set up we do isn’t connected with a train show in any way. That show has the potential to reach folks who are not already in the hobby. Now if only we could do another show like that, we might reach more people who aren’t already in the hobby.

I want to start a thread: TW might get out of LS… then we have it all covered. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

This current post is puzzling: Is TrainWorld continuing to carry large scale trains?

We have had over 4000+ responses to Todd Haskins posting his report to visiting TrainWorld’s NY store:

"I spoke with a nice lady there and told her how I have been seeing their ads in Garden Railways and over the years I have bought several items from them and then she dropped the bomb. Trainworld is getting out of the large scale business. "

" The owner used to really be into the G and actually traveled to Germany for LGB each year but after the bankruptcy we all know the rest of the story. She told me that the room to the right used to be filled with large scale but is now a stock room. She said that the demand for G is down given people don’t have the money or the room it requires. "

The presumption is the “nice lady” is an employee and spoke with credential.

If her claim is an error, we have both wronged TrainWorld and at the same time promoted buying from TrainWorld now to get a good deal.

So what is the accurate story?

Well…Ken Bianco of Trainworld defined it in his post a few days ago…

My apology.

I went back to the thread discussing TrainWorld’s no longer carrying large scale - yes, on page 5 was Ken Bianco’s clarification.

I made the error of thinking the continuation to page 5 was similar commentary and instead was attracted to Fred’s observations above.

My wish is a copy of Ken Bianco’s statement could have been included in Fred’s understandable efforts to change the negative conclusion.

Perhaps this is why I am now a “mixed” reputation from a previous rating of “well-respected”.

Thanks to Fred for his efforts.

Wendell, I cringed when I saw your post because it was a backwards step, but not your fault.

I bumped you back to respected for your follow thru.

Fr. Fred’s intention was good, but as you found out slightly flawed…

It’s the Holidays and we are on varied schedules, sometimes a blurb gets overlooked…

May the new year bring you all the trains you desire.

John

I agree lets get positive in the New Year.

It was a simple mistake but boy the fall out. I went to Trainworld was told by an employee there that they were getting out of G and when I returned from the trip I thought you guys would want to know what I had heard. I’m glad that Ken B straightened us out and I hope that nice lady didn’t get into any trouble with him.

I did just respond to the other thread about having a train show on TV before seeing this one so that is not negative. I do agree lets ignore that other thread and let it work its way down the page until it is off.

Happy New Year and Happy RRing

Todd,

Go sit in the corner for spreading gossip! (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-sealed.gif)

Here you go. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

TRAIN WORLD IS NOT GETTING OUT OF “G” or LARGE SCALE, so get over it and start thinking positive…it’s a NEW YEAR, so start promoting the hobby…

Yikes! So I really haven’t had a chance to check this forum since Black Friday so I apologize for the delay. Just wanted to clarify what is going on. TrainWorld/TrainLand is NOT getting out of G scale. We are only scaling back on our large inventory positions in G scale. I am assuming that the lady the gentleman spoke to was Aileen who helps out during Christmas. Years ago before LGB went out of business, my grandfather bought G scale by the container load. She used to work full time 15 years ago and remembers the massive amount of G scale that went out the door. I still can’t believe the stories about how much G scale that came in and out of the warehouse. Unfortunately, as we all know, since LGB went bankrupt the G scale market fell apart. The G scale market is still soft but as I tell all the manufactures the one thing we do best is sell trains and I will never give that up. We will continue to stock all the numbers that you are accustomed to, however I cannot buy the same way my grandfather used to. This is a different time and different market. Needless to say, I still buy huge amounts of G scale stock in comparison to other dealers and can only “assume” that we are still LGBs, PIKO, and Bachmanns largest dealer. Manufacturers are still shocked by the volume of G scale we sell because of the time we are in. As for the showroom, I decided to scale back into 1 room instead of 2 because we needed more office space. Our Lynbrook store in Long Island is our flagship retail location and has a large G scale display. The retail display in Brooklyn may not be as large anymore but our warehouse is larger than most distributors. I talk to the G scale manufacturers regularly and I am excited about this upcoming year. There will be a lot of new product announcements that I can’t wait to see and publish. We will continue to have a lot of upcoming G scale sales for great savings. Make sure you sign up for our email sales.

Best,

TrainWorld

Yes Pete, we all read what Ken Bianco jr. posted earlier. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-undecided.gif)

Joe, maybe not everyone.

David, yea I think we did. Enough has been said on this topic.

We would LOVE to have TrainWorld at the 32nd Annual National Garden Railways Convention being held in the San Francisco Bay Area July 4-10, 2016. This would show a National Audience that they still sell Large Scale trains.

Russell; Yes it would be great if they did go way out to the “Left Coast”, and everyone would like that to happen, BUT…

The people at Train World are running a business, and have to consider the costs involved with such a trip from New York.

Think about it; they would have to transport stock; pay the rent, hotel charges, transport the staff, arrange the payment of sales taxes, and other factors that the attendees of the show never, ever think of…and then get the whole thing back to NY after. Who would man the office back home while they were at the convention ?

So; what kind of discount could they afford to offer, once it all got organized ?..and still make enough to pay costs, and have some profit ?

There are other dealers on the West Coast, that surely could put on a big display, and have enough stock, if they thought it worth while; and offer good prices at the same time.Train World already advertises nation wide, and is well known in most of the model railroad circles. I’m sure after this bit of faulty news, that they will make it well known, that they still VERY MUCH, stock, support, and sell Large Scale (G).

It is great to see you posting here; please feel welcome.
