I see on the trainworld website (not the online store) that they have invested in a rather large series of LGB and PIKO adds described as 10/2007 which I understand to mean October 2007? The Ads states “all products limited quantity”. Given that LGB stock isn’t exactly thick on the ground at present in the USA [well the spotted deer store seems almost empty of LGB items (excluding elves of course) and we all know where that store is], why would trainworld invest in so many LGB Ads? Maybe the price of Ads is cheap in Garden Railroad magazines? I am also intrigued that trainworld pulled the LGB items from their online store yet listed pretty much the whole LGB range in these Ads! Or could it be they have acquired a job lot of stock from somewhere. If so can someone stateside tell us from where?
To my thinking there may be two origins…somewhere unoffical in Europe…or…somewhere in California.
I mean, I haven’t seen any substantial LGB ads from trainworld for some time. Did I miss them?
I’m thinking someone somewhere needed to realise some cash…and its definitely NOT trainworld!
Of course, all this might just be co-incidence and trainworld are just selling stuff like they always do?
Les the Stirrer
Les, I’m not so sure we need any more stirring around here. What’s going to happen is going to happen and Trainworld is always liquidating something.
Les-
Warren may absolutely on target with his statement “Trainworld is always liquidating something.”
Translation:
Les may be right that there is a “supply” of LGB trains that has not been available until now.
Or Trainworld is getting the idea LGB products will not have the same compelling interest once Marklin takes over so sell the screwy items now, e.g exploding boxcars, motorcyclists, singing Coke cars, weird mogul paint jobs, 200 varieties of the same cabooses, and all those LGB items everyone in a diminishing market already has;
Or Trainworld is losing money and needs to “liquidate” whatever stock they have saved on the basis there will be a big demand once LGB folded;
Or a cache of product is being unloaded through Trainworld, once held by LGB of America, did come from some warehouse;
Or other retailers are making deals with Trainworld to sell out what they have that is not moving;
Or there are no more guesses at this time.
Yes, the business end of our LS hobby is now a series of untied endings.
Les, stay curious.
The back story, once in the front, will be THE story told in Large Scale. Obviously, what 's new in large scale is so infrequent, LGB’s story has become the large scale story. Large scale news is not a parade of new product announcements by our manufacturers. And there won’t be until the industry leader, inventor, and the holder of the so badly damaged “Campbell soup” image gets sorted out, remarked, or buried as dead.

Or flogged some more like so many dead horses.
:lol:
On a side note, one dealer in Canada apparently obtained quite a few LGB bits and pieces from other dealers who have given up on LGB. At least that’s what the dealer told one of the RhB Forum members.
In which case you would think there are some bargains to be had … hmmmm … think again!
But that’s OK with the dollar in the par range it doesn’t matter where the mail orders come from, what counts: reasonable prices and excellent service!
Until someone “official” somewhere gets up off their “*****” (did I get that Americanism right?) and issues an “official” comment then everybody can speculate and stir the “****” till the cows come home or until the fat lady sings or until the goose or duck is well and truly cooked. I gave up speculating on the meaning of life or man’s place in the universe a long time ago or even if the moon is made of green cheese - and now restrict myself to less weighty matters to amuse my simple mind.
Seriously, I would have thought that all this internet chitterchat would have provoked some official comment from SD whose customers are literally crying out for information. People who moan about speculation must understand that there is a very simple way to stop speculation. Since the beginning of August there has been ample opportunity for the various parties to agree what is going to happen (or not). People want to buy stuff for christmas and time is getting shorter by the day. Stuff is beginning to move in Europe and at the same time beginning to stop in the USA! If, as stated on the Family forum, there is are containers of product to be shipped to LGBoA why aren’t they telling us about it?

There is a saying - “No news is good news”. However, in this case no news is very BAD news. If there were joy to behold, then a rational person would advise the masses and ease the tension coming up to the festive season (Christmas time as it was known before political correctness took hold). As no statements have been forthcoming in the last, almost nine weeks, then one is to assume that there is simply no good news out there.
I must assume that the advertisements referred to, by Trainworld, include all the unsaleable Coca-cola advertising items and the other ridiculous gimmicks that Lehmann came up with. No matter how cheap these things are then they will stay on the shelves, unless viewed as a source of available spare parts only. How many picked up numerous “DOTS” cabeese for $49.00, simply to obtain the ball-bearing wheelsets and the metal wheels? With ball-bearing wheelsets now around $79.00, the cabeese were good value.
