Large Scale Central

trains, Girls, and Ozzy Osborne

Yeah…think Ozzy would be back on the pills…they reminded me of The Shadows the way they rocked back and forth!

I enjoyed all three pretty girls!

Any steamer I have been close to would leave black smudges on any one and anything within a stones throw impressive how all three girls were clean as a whistle!

You guys are cracking me up. I don’t even know where to begin.

I will address John first cuz he and I have a kinda history. And I have decided that if and when the opportunity ever presents itself I will try to get Johns goat. ( I think he understands and will gladly reciprocate). Well this wont be one of those times. . . Yes it will. John what are you talking about? There you go again assuming that this loco is one of the ones I am building. I am building the #3 a Baldwin straight boiler type. This is the #1 a Grant. Keep up. OK OK don’t get excited I am kidding. Love Ya brother.

What??? I goofed again???

Too many #1loves!

I told you, you can have the goat!

The gag is I can barely remember my favs and Devo expects me to remember his!

In all seriousness. I am purposely holding of on the #1 and #2 until last. They were sister locos and there is very little information (read none) on the details of this loco. As a napkin builder (i didn’t say rivet counter) I don’t have a napkin to work from. However, I have been given a standing invitation from the director of this private museum to examine this loco in detail. I will have tape measure and napkin in hand. This will happen hopefully this spring. Then when the time comes I will make these (#1 and #2) my personal master pieces. I have a twisted, obsessive crush on this locomotive. I consider it mine and it is on loan to the San Fallippo museum.

This photo started it all. I was a St. Maries River Railroad modern diesel guy in HO until I saw this photo of the #1. I knew instantly that I wanted to make this my Garden Railroad and I wanted to know everything about it.

Devon, I felt the same way about the Pittsburgh and Castle Shanon when I saw some pictures of that olde railroad. At the time I was indoors and trying to get back into HO, after that fiasco with the N gauge monster. I was thinking of cheating and using HOn3, since most folks wouldn’t notice that I was cheating by modeling a 40 inch gauge railroad but using 36 inch gauge track. Now that I am a garden railroader, I can use gauge 1 track and just adjust the scale (wink wink) to portray my 40 inch gauge railroad.

Now David,

What does 40" gauge scale out with 45mm track?

I expect you to hold true to form.

That photo made such an impression on me. I just loved the Boat and the old school loco. And it is right in my backyard. What is sad is that I have lived here since I was 9 (I am 43) and I found out about this RR about 8-10 years ago. Why is such history hidden. I earned about all sorts of history in Public School system but this remained a secret. well that is a rant for another time.

Well, Devon, it works out to some oddball ratio. I forget the exact ration, but it was something like 1:22.8. So I build in 1:24, the math is easier for my simple mind.

As for history, its hidden all around us. My mom asked me why I numbered number 7, number 7. I showed her a picture of the real number 7. She then said “that was real? I thought you made the whole thing up.” And she lived in Shannon most of her life. AND, AND, she rode on the P&CS right of way many, many times. Of course when she rode it, it was the trolly line.

Like…seems quite powerful (and the music is ok as well)! Two versions.

Yes everyone one should have a rotary plow. Alas another one of those projects to add to the list

Rotary? My railroad could never afford one.

Neither could mine then or now
