It was great seeing every one…
Bob … you and Martha have done a wonderful job on this pike …
Great weekend thanks to all our hosts. Noelle and I are now on Cape Cod of all things visiting a couple of backyard railroaders, then turning north we will drop in on Don Howard in North Vermont before we cross the border home again to Toronto.
On Friday I’m off to Ottawa for the Saturday operating session at Fred’s. Kind of making up a little for missing the American Invasion of Friends this year.
Sounds like the kind of life Ric and Jan have been living…
Cheers everyone!,
Monday morning and we are getting ready to leave the Boston area. Can’t believe its over for another year. Time to get the schedule started for next year’s event. Great time! Jan and I got to run a “Mixed Train” (one of my favorite types) from someplace “Niobe” on Stan and Deb’s railroad to the new area below “Chama”. Man is that a cool area. Small area with lots of work and a nice turntable at JR. Never did see the “Standard Gauge Connection” Ate lunch and then we did the monster double-headed CHSL out of Chama with Ken’s help, all the way to Solitude. Agent at Solitude asked if we were ready for another, I apologize for being a little abrupt with my answer about us needing a little break. That was a challenge to the term slow and steady. I think I was about brain dead when Al took over at “Bat House Yard” and directed me with the rest of the consist to Solitude. Jan, Ken and I were all dehydrated and worn out. Great fun! The new track plan layout on the laminated cards is really a big help. Wish I would have seen it before the day began, instead of at the end. But that was totally my fault. They were there, I saw them and didn’t think of the significance until the end of the sessions. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
.
Another day begins, participation is optional.
Left Mass about 3 this morning and arrived in West Grove about 9:30. Had a great time and will add my thanks to Bob, Martha, Stan and Debbie for hosting a wonderful time. And I’m not sure that I want to thank Ric or not for including me in that CHSL run. Calling it challenging is a bit of an understatement…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
Did you take any pictures Ken ?
Ken said “Calling it challenging is a bit of an understatement.” I have to totally agree. Especially when we had a run away and T boned the CHSL but with no pictures it never happened and its all good. Great day
Richard
Have to add that I thank that Al did a great job running Bat yard

If Ken wouldn’t have worked with Jan and I, we wouldn’t have tried it.
.
Got back to the Finger Lakes Live Steamers yesterday evening. Not a bad drive, but we are exhausted. Too Much fun!
.
Jan got an email from Stan and/or Deb Ames. He felt we 'accidentally" left the “Traveling Outhouse Award” at his place. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
.
We delivered it to Bob’s, after trying to leave it at Al’s. Not sure who brought it to Stan’s. Bob McC, who owns this site and the award is named “The LargescaleCentral Traveling Out House Award” was there. Bob Hyman, who created 'the Award" was there. By the way, great modeling effort and a perfect award for this bunch of “Old Farts”. Larry Otis was there. Even with his wife.
.
Don Howard was even there.
.
“HOT POTATO” - that bad smell is out of my truck.

The “Traveling Outhouse Award” should, you know, travel. Maybe with someone with a giant RV. You happen to know anybody?
Doug Matheson, Paul Anderson, Bernie Goodman and I really enjoyed ourselves. Thanks to our hosts Bob, Martha, Stan and Debbie. It was a toss-up as to whether we would go this year. We Canadians tend to melt at anything over 89F. But the weather in Massachusetts was better than the first 3 weeks of July in Ottawa.
Always fun to run trains on Bob and Stan’s railways. I was a little frustrated that I could not master the DCC throttle, something I used at Stan’s in previous years. But it did give me a chance to learn how to use car cars. However I did manage to scatter them on the ground a few times looking at the railway map on the back of the clip board.
On the trip home Paul said that he would prefer something other than another pound of beef sandwich at D’Angalo’s that we had had on the way down for lunch. After an extensive tour of White River Junction we did find a Chinese Buffet that had good food for a reasonable price.
Last year while Doug and I were yakking, we missed the turn from 93 to 89 at Concord. Didn’t realize it until we reached Penacook where Don Sweet lives. This year was no better. In the dark Paul and Doug managed to leave Highway 11 somewhere west of Rouses Point and we found ourselves headed for Plattsburg. Probably had something to do with the big GPS screen that was determined to route us through the heavy Sunday night traffic in Montreal. Although Montreal is north and Plattsburg is south?
Paul said - “another pound of beef sandwich at D’Angalo’s that we had had on the way down for lunch”. Man, that sounds interesting. Where’s D’Angalo’s?

Hollywood took it to the Garden Railroad Convention and it never left his car. It was an honor, but the responsibility was above my pay grade. I once got stuck with “stuffed animals” for a year. You’ve got to spread the joy. I bet Stan can unload it on someone. Larry Otis said he could use the case to carry his 'Speedo". Hope to see it at York. Log the mileage, folks.

Ric, D’Angelo’s is a New England sub shop chain.

Did you say you hop to see the speedo in March?
“Did you say you hop to see the speedo in March?”

Only in your dreams, big guy. Get back on your meds and tell your therapist your problems are flaring up again.
Rooster: puts the speedo conversation on ignore
