Large Scale Central

TrainOps 2014

Sean, yes, that’s a great place… I usually hit Kelly’s on old route 1A… But, last time I was there, they also had one in Danvers…

Bob, I usually get a fried shrimp plate, then add a box of clams and a box of scallops… I get the shrimp on the plate, because there’s usually more shrimp on the plate, than they can fit in a box…

My first stop back there is ““Land & Sea””, in Peabody… Have no clue what they sell on the ““land”” side…

Great, so you’re bringing a bunch over Friday instead of pizza?

I’m getting hungry!

For those arriving Thursday I have a couple of suggestions…

Thursday Evening: Microbrews around the campfire at Radder’s Mobile Ranch (aka The Hippie Gypsy) located at Minuteman Campground, just a few minute’s from Bob’s. I’ll supply the first case of bheer. You bring a chair if you can and pay the day use fee on entry. This will break up early as they have a noise curfew.

Friday Morning: Visit Al Pomeroy’s indoor/outdoor layout. Possibility of some ops. I’ll get more details from Al about his layout. Al is in New Hampshire; about 1:15 from Bob’s. I can take two or three more with me; leaving the campground around 7:30 AM. Spending a few hours at Al’s and back to Littleton in time for lunch and/or Bob’s open run at Noon.

Almost forgot…

For those returning toward the West on Monday; Possibility of a visit and some short ops on the Candlewood Valley Scenic. Located :20 North of I-84 Exit 6 at Danbury CT. Details and times are a bit sketchy at this point as we will be packing up and traveling Monday too. If there is interest maybe we can have a Convoy!

Oh boy.

I just looked through the 2013 pictures 4 pages:

http://www.largescalecentral.com/forums/topic/19672/train-ops-2013-picture-thread

Looks like my C19 RGS #40 will have company. When I ran it at the American Invasion 2013 and 2014 mine was the only one :frowning:

I guess I’ll have to unpack the Movie Version and wire it up.

Vince, you had some pics of loco carriers. Yours? What locos? K27 or C19 or …?

I had nothing there, I just went to check it all out and take lots of pictures.
Not sure who the carriers belonged to.

Don,

Was thinking of bringing the RGS 40 again, but can substitute RGS 455 or possibly RGS 41

Al P.

A few more places to go.

DeCordova Museum in Lexington
Nashoba Winery
Lowell Quilt Museum

Kimball’s Farm. Ice cream, minigolf, driving range, food, etc.

Thanks for even more stuff to do in the neighborhood.

So far I personally will still want to run trains, tho.

We have only found time early Friday morning to do other than trains; bird watching at the NWR; neat place, plus they still have a bunch of old ammo bunkers left over from WWII.

The rest of the time is just packed full of operations and socializing.

Still hopeful we can make it this year, but Jean is still very uncomfortable getting in and out of the car.

Sunday Operations at TrainOps

On Sunday August 17th, the SJR&P layout will be open at 9AM and we will begin operations at 10AM.

We are a Fn3 layout and use Kadee couplers.

Visiting locomotives are welcome. We can support DCC, RC and Live Steam with insulated wheels. We try to maintain a 2M minimum radius and #5 or larger turnouts on the main line.

At about noon we will break for a pot luck lunch. Maps will be available at Bobs on Saturday. Those attending Sunday but not Saturday can email me for a Map.

First time I went there I ordered a Large not having any idea what I purchased. I’m an avid ice cream fan, but had a real hard time with that one! Can’t wait to get back there; oh and it will be good to see you guys and run some trains too!

Dang. Not looking good for attending. Back surgery and a 9 hour drive in the car may not go together as well as I originally thought.

Bruce

Hope Jean gets better soon.

Stan

Hoping Jean feels better next week. If you could you leave a day early and break up the trip to 2 days, would that help?

So all these places you guys mentioned are place where there is trains ops? And some serve ice cream or seafood, also. Cool!

I’m sure you wouldn’t have mentioned it if it didn’t have trains running and not those that just run in a circle.

However, I have nothing against tourist lines running in circles, if they are operating. Static displays are sometimes okay.

So what size are the trains at Walden’s Pond? Will they let us operate?

Sorry no trains…
This is for the other half that has to put up with the trains.

I just cancelled our hotel reservations.

While Jean is healing nicely, she is still not comfortable sitting or standing for any length of time. Still in a bit of pain as well; she doesn’t want to go if she can’t enjoy herself.

We’ll miss seeing everybody.
