Train stuff this weekend

Picked up a trio of Bachmann WP&YR passenger cars - baggage, coach, and observation - for $20 apiece. Need some clean-up, but not much. Then at the train show yesterday, I found a matching combine car, brand new in the box for $30. As soon as things dry out around here, I’ll pull them behind my 0-6-0 on the temporary track. Only snag was the fact that cars all had knuckle couplers, and the tender has hook and loop. However, the brand new car came with a spare set of hook and loop, so I put a hook and loop on the front of the baggage car, so it can run between the tender and the rest of the train.

Bad photo now, better one later…

That was quite a score! Hmm, “Bad photo now, better one later” that ought to become a saying. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif)

Metal or plastic wheels?

Metal wheels.

I also picked up an LGB #19902 station track set for $30, and a Pola-LGB train station.

Heck, for new to G you are already one helluva shopper!

I research what I want in order to find out what normal price is. Then I don’t buy unless I think it’s a good deal - or unless it’s something I really want. I do that with everything, not just trains. The train show in Prescott Valley had a lot of G-stuff. I could have spent a couple thousand more than I did without any problems. And I just missed a whole box of LGB 1200mm straights. The other guy got to the table 30 seconds before I did.

It’s similar to being able to hold your water in an auction gone overboard, or ebay.

Took me a while to learn.

There’s a few things that took several years to buy, since I refused to pay double what they were worth.

But in the long run, patience can earn you almost double the “stuff” we NEED (hah!) for our hobby!

Greg

That’s the idea.

Beats the $75 a guy out here wanted for a non-functioning, Bachmann “Annie” with a gazillion and a half missing parts! Great score!

Eric, those guys are really good…for a laugh. I get to laugh a few times each train show I go to.
