Train music

Sara and I were at the train show in Ontario, Ca., a few weeks ago and she found a music box.

It is a little cube about 1inch square that takes 8 gig memory cards.

What is your favorite train song?

Without a doubt - “Orange Blossom Special”.
And yes, the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain plays it!

Lou,
I’ve posted this before. But this is probably one of the best versions of “Orange Blossom Special” I’ve heard.
The late Hoyt Axton’s band. The fiddler played this song with the fiddle behind his head!
Hope you enjoy it.

I don’t think that anybody does it better than Boxcar Willie. I love the way he does the steam whistle. I tired to do it once. I couldn’t speak for a week, after that.

I sing this one for my grandkids every Christmas.

Here is the “Wabash Cannonball” performed by Hank Snow. It also has words to sing along. But you gotta see the outstanding steam footage included!

It was always fun to do Underweigh Replenishments (UNREPS) from USS WABASH AOR 5, as they always played the “Wabash Cannonball” as their breakaway song at the end of the UNREP as the ships were “breaking away.” They had at least 5 versions that I recall, and you never knew which version they were going to play.

Wabash was one of 5 Wichita class AORs that were built around left over steam plants that had been built for Iowa class battleships that were never needed during World War II. AORs carried beans, bullets, bandages and fuel, of all types and descriptions. They were very capable ships.

When I was aboard the USS Forrestal when we did a break away the engineer would play a steam locomotive leaving the station. Never did find out what locomotive it was.
