I agree. I went through one of the spray bottles pretty quickly and I only have a couple hundred feet I’m treating.
Next project is replacing the temporary 2x10 bridge uphill from Majestic towards Pearce. I have some old growth redwood T&G that I got from Rooster, and Ive been saving it for a very visible project. I cut up a bunch of it and built a bridge deck.
Now I have to remove the existing track and temporary bridge, add guard rails, cast the footings and get it in place.
That is beautiful work. Is that code 250 rail? Looks very realistic.

Yes. Code 250 SS. The wood is beautiful. I stained it with a dark walnut stain, and it brought out a LOT of the red.

I just applied Amorall (original formula) to my ties. With the track down finally and secured I figure I might as well start the preservation. Track has been outside less then 6 months (some only 2). It’s only been 24 hours or so since I applied it. I notice the one train I have ran on it so far seems to slip a bit more then it used to but I am not totally sure. It can still get up the grades fine. It mostly seems to not go as fast as it used to.
I tried wiping/cleaning the track and wheels of engine but didn’t notice any difference. I am guessing it just takes more time to dry on the track/rub off by trains running?
Anyone that has been here knows that the back loop of the RR has settled and heaved over the last few years, to the point where it was difficult to get a 4-5 car train up it. So, REBUILD! Its hard to tell from the pictures, but I have a consistent 1.5 percent grade now (the wood battens are there for leveling and alignment). Its not quite finished, I have a bit more digging and some concrete work to do, and I need to rebuild the stepover, but the general grade is there. I’ll finish this up in the next week or so, ballast it, let it settle for the winter, and add track in the spring.

Cool. Yuop, I was having a hard time with that curving grade. Glad to see it improved.
Maybe next year my Pacific will make the grade.
Funny about how stuff moves over the years, and it does not seem a lot until you realize the movement has accumulated.
Pulled a brand new, never run Aristo high hood SD45 out and promptly derailed in a spot I thought was fine. Got out the laser, and the track moved up 1-1/2 inches in about 2-1/2 feet (track goes around palm tree)… had messed up cross level at a switch. The USAT F3’s were fine, but that SD45 just wanted to skate right off the track (no extra weights also an issue, needed for the poor suspension).
Well not adjusting track in 8 years is nothing to complain about I guess ha ha!

These were taken a couple days before all the buildings came in. Nothing building-wise stays out. Learned that lesson the hard way.
We’re still thinking mid-July for 2018. That’s when the gardens are in their prime, and we have the most flexibility on weekend availability.

Different climate I guess. All of my buildings stay outside year-round. The only lesson I learned is not to use exterior plywood. Most buildings are PVC, but there is one made from cedar and my trestles are all cedar as well.
Looking forward to July.

Thanks. Still needs final ballast, but that will come after the step over is rebuilt. That’s next.
