Trackwork on the NVRY

Bob, in the last pic i notice the changing distances between rail and guardrail.

why did you make it so?

The guard rails are just laying on the bridge for now. Theyll be attached soon enough.

Some more work in the last week or so. The grade between Pearce and Majestic has been re-graded to keep it between 2 and 3%. The tunnel has also been daylighted.

Some work on the base for the colliery at Majestic.

bob,

first i noticed on the pic were the gaps between sleepers at the rail joiners.

in my eyes gaps are more “visible” than too small distances between sleepers.

if sanded down a bit, or cut out, sleepers fit nicely below the joiners.

Bob, please explain the odd looking thing under the light, with caster wheels. I think I want one, whatever it is! Everything is looking good, I am waiting for something inder 110 to go out and start on my ROW prep.

That’s Tin Can Dog!

Does he poop nuts?

Much easier to pickup with a magnet! (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Is that the prototype for K-9 of Doctor Who fame?

Bob, what do you mean by “the tunnel has been daylighted.”?

Lou,

When a railroad Daylights a tunnel, they remove the top of the hill and turn a tunnel into a deep cut. As soon as we remove a tunnel our gremlins seek out a new spot where they can torment us.

John

Continuing trackwork, the hill from Majestic to Oahkill was very steep, 6-8%. I eased it a LOT my moving the entry switch for the branch back to the beginning of Majestic. Here’s the #8 leading off right to the new trackwork.

Continue downhill, with Majestic proper on the left, new grade on the right, on temporary supports.

and down to Oakhill.

A bit of improvement at the approach to Dead Rooster Gulch. A concrete block wall with some rock facing, and extended a spur about five feet. The un-faced area will be some kind of mill / concentrator, covering both the new siding extension, and some of the trestle dock below.

Looks great!

Why not reactivate the mine?

I really like the look of the bridges over the lower tracks. It’s a great view. Makes me want to redo some areas and make them more interesting.

Continuing down the “replace bad track with good track”, this weekend I replaced the oldest mainline track on my layout, the downhill curve from Burke to Williamsport. This was the first track I put in, and its finally past end-of-life. So I spent yesterday morning with the rail bender and track assembly. Now we have nice new track here.

I need to get some more ballast for final leveling and lining, but it came out nicely. Next track to get replaced is the track heading out of Majestic toward the back loop, plus the rest of the trackwork at Pearce. I have some switches on order from Robby, they should be here tomorrow.

hope its just the angle but looks like some cross level ballsating is needed there. What was the main problem with the old track? Did you just use all new? how old was the original track

Most of my existing track is first or second run AMS code 250 NG, and the plastic isn’t UV stable. I’ve bought a few boxes of their replacement ties over the years but they still tend to bleach. The SVRY track, that was Chili John’s that sat in the NM sun for years is still good. So I’m replacing all my track (multi year project) with SVRY.

YMMV of course.

Looking good Bob! Our trip to MA this year is once again up in the air as my brother decided to finally get married after 20 years of engagement (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)Once we get back from Denver I can decide if there is time and money in the budget to do both.
