Trackwork at Majestic

Got the extension framed and started on the decking. In only had one piece, so I have to go to Lowes after work today to get a few more.

Are you using PT wood for the frame?

What are you using for the decking, untreated 2 x X or is is composite?

Pt 2x4 frame on blocks, and 5/4 x 6 pt decking…

Did you get permission from Sean to alter that platform?..

So have you gotten to use that chair I see in the photo? With this weather most of us are having I used mine yesterday!

Extension benchwork is done. Next I need to back fill around it, align the tracks and get the colliery foundations in place.

Looking good Bob

You better wrap yern knuckles around that shovel of yers and get busy.
You have a lot of work to do before we come up there and run on your track.
And no BEER drinken whe you should be worken.
Don’t be setting on that chair too much, you have a lot of rocks to move.
But other than that It’s looking good.

Track is lined and attached. Backfilling, rocks, and the colliery foundation is next.

Maybe I need a spring " HELP! " weekend…

Got the extension backfilled, and some rock in place to hold it. Moved the bricks for the colliery foundation to the approximate place for them. We’ll see once I bring the building out.

Spring has sprung,
Birds are chirping,
flowers are starting to bloom,
and the sound of track being laid,
is in the air.

Don’t forget Ernie Fords “Fifteen Tons” playing in the background.
Looks good Bob, and the 'Carolina Chocolate Drops ain’t bad either.

I think that will be MY contribution for this spring! Have to save up for the Fall trip.

Yep Bruce you caught me on that one, I’ll blame it on global deflation.

what’s a ton or 2 between friends…

At last TrainOps, I was asking for suggestions on how to improve the track at Majestic. Ric Golding suggested flipping the colliery tracks left for right, and see if that helps things out. So, last fall I took up all the track except the approaches, and started noodling with ideas. This past weekend I found a design I like, that also adds another siding to switch.

The approach from Pearce stays mostly the same, except the LH switch on the siding heads off toward the 3-way for under the colliery.

A bit closer, you can see where the 3 tracks of the colliery will go on the left, and the start of the puzzle tracks around the freight house (left spur) and the to-be-named unloading spur (middle, between the main and siding)

And another showing the spurs, and the branchline downhill toward Oakhill.

I just have to dig some of the ballast out from under where the colliery will go, put down weed block, and get the tracks in place there.

Bob, you do know how much free advice is worth, right? That does look like a normal flow through the area.

Ric, do you take a check?

Yea, I like the flow better than just “here’s a passing siding, oh, and there are a couple of spurs here, too.” This looks a bit more refined, or something.
