Large Scale Central

Track realignment project

I’ve been contemplating this for a few years and since the purchase of a K-27, it needed to get done. When the ROW in this location was first built I wanted to stay between the rose bushes and the Magnolia. Well, the rose bushes are gone and the magnolia has been encroaching on the track for the last 4 years.

Also during the winter right after it was installed, the track had broken in half on the curve, just in front of the loco in the above pic, so that needed to be remedied. The track came up this morning and the realignment work commenced.

A new trench was dug and the old spline reused.

Much better…

Looks like you got rid of an ‘S’ curve. Looks good Ken. How long has the spline been in and how well has it held up?

The spline held up well. I put that part in in June 2007. The “S” curve wasn’t all that bad, but the Magnolia was growing too fast…

nice work, Ken…

Nice improvment. Always love seeing your layout

Looking good Ken. Nice smooth, flowing trackwork, not at all like mine. hehe!

Looks like the work you did will be more than worthwhile Ken. There is nothing more pleasing, in my view, than interesting curves set in a lovely background. Your RR is great!
