Large Scale Central

Track Level Video of my Layout

I made a track level video of my layout. Used a $6 keyfob video camera I got off ebay after reading about it in the Garden Railways forum. Finally got some good directions, since the translated Chinese ones are useless. I did have to get a small video card also, it did not come with it. I use it fine with my Mac, also will work on PC’s. I stuck it on top of my Bachman rail truck. You see it go around the outer loop, thru the tunnel under the waterfall, across the metal bridge, around thru the covered bridge, then switch to the inner loop. You go thru the tunnel again, then around past the N train station, go by the grain elevator I made this winter and back around to the tunnel.

Jerry,
That’s pretty good for a $6 video camera. Do you have a link or name of the eBay seller?

Here’s a link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280502938576
You do need a mini video card, I got one at Radio Shack, guess they go in phones?
Lots of discussion about this over on the G Scale Central site in the UK. Robb posted some real good instructions about it. Might check that out. I thought it was fun, can take still shots with it also.

Jerry, nice video & layout…

Jerry,

That, Sir, is just amazing. Better than my $100+ AristoCraft video camera. Details, please.

TAC, quite a bit of discussion about it over on G Scale Central, the UK site, including good instructions. Link is up above to buy one, they are in China, so takes a week or two to get it.

TAC,
I can email the good directions to you. Will try that with your link under your name, not sure if you can attach to that or not. If not email me at my home address and give me your address and I’ll send it over.

I like your track plan very much. Ever get derails from all that vegetation growing in the tracks? Looks like parts of it could use a dose of Roundup. May I suggest you wait for an overcast day or a late afternoon for your next attempt? The light meter will see less of the brightness behind the layout and more of the details close to it See mine taken on an o’cast day at:

Nice run Jerry.Might have to get one of those.

What? No 5.1 surround sound?

Actually, I was surprised when I did notice it also had sound.

Was wondering what would happen at the end there, as it approached the closed switch. Hmm, I guess we’ll never find out…

BTW, nice layout, bridge and tunnel…

Joe Satnik

Edit: added BTW…

That’s just what the layout needs a giant weed puller!
Nice work and nice layout tour.

I threw it later on guys, not to worry!
