Track Inspection Before Special Run

The weather in our area has been quite warm and rainy for this time of year. Today it’s in the mid 40’s with rain expected later tonight. So the section leader and the track inspector decided to do an inspection before the special run scheduled for tomorrow. This is looking out from the deck;

The first problem found by the inspector was a cave-in;

This will take some digging out by the track crew?

The next problem was at the end of my bridge;

The track separated, but the hillmans are still OK;

Unfortunately the inspector found several areas on the layout like this;

I guess thats what happens when you get over 30" to 40" of snow between late November and early January, then it all melts in 4 days because of warm weather, rain, and blowing wind. The track crew is scheduled for repairs as soon as the rain stops. Personally I’ll take the snow instead of rain. I can still play trains in the snow. Chuck

So no major damage to the Rail line, just a small slide t dig out. Not bad. Nice from what I can see. :slight_smile:

Nice layout. Even that landslide is pretty cool. Just like the real stuff.

Probably a good thing the rail pulled from the clamps. Might have had some “kinked” track if they hadn’t.

Can I hire your track inspector?
Seems like he/she does a good job.
I need all the help I can get.

Hi Chuck,
With a Cat at your disposal you should be able to clear that slide pretty quickly :)=)
Rick

Thanks for the compliments guys. I’m really glad I switched over to floating all my track as there has been alot of movement. If it had been fastened down I would have had kinks for sure.

The cat’s name is “Calli” but she doesn’t work very cheap and she refuses to dig, but she does like to roll in the dirt. I have no clue why. I have to keep a real close eye on her when John Bouck aka “Geezer Gauger” comes over, he’s aways wanting to steel her. So before he leaves I check all his tote boxes and his truck.

I think it will be a few days before the crew gets to clearing the cave-in, the cold weather and snow has moved back into the area. They saying we should get 1" to 2" tonight with alot more possible for the weekend.

Have zero personal experience with outdoor track - that and the floating track sure sound like something worth noting.
