And here is another bonus, this one on the first day on the road.
All it takes is money … hmmmmm according to their website i.e. a six days/five nights luxury rail cruise is Can$8000 plus 5% GST
But one sure would get the treatment with these guys, Rocky Mountaineer looks like a down scaled bargain deal.
The old story … talk to people and you will learn. Went to the admin office at the Golden coal rep and prep yard - more on that later - to get permission to poke around the yard. High visibility vest and official CP hard hat all at the ready. Signed a release form that stipulated the time allotted and off I went. That is right after the one guy mentioned “By the way, the Royal Canadian Pacific is coming through at about 1400”. GREAT!
And this is the result.

Looks a bit odd with the SD spliced between the F units, but better safe than sorry.
Interesting wrinkle on the Mountain Sub, the time zone changes at approx. Mile 66.2, but CP stays on PT all the way to Field (Mile 0). The crews that take over at Field work out of Calgary (MT).
BTW the racket in the background is from the ES44AC units on the Potash Unit train ready to tackle the hill. There’s always some background noise, trains, cars, people, flowing water, you name it it will show up.
