The combination of being away during most of the 2012 Challenge and hang ups in uploading and learning to film, here is my first attempt at filming the layout. My new camera car is going to work fine. This clip will be handy for analyzing what spring maintenance needs to be done.
That came out real good… Love the Turquoise ore load… .
Well, the first thing ya oughta do is clean the cobwebs off the headlight…
I thought I was bad…
Oh, nice video!
Even though it’s a camera car it’s a convertible so it can have a dual purpose! The combination of using an LGB car and real ore really helped stabilize the car.
Now I have to do track maintenance and film a new movie! I plan to use the Shay for the next film so I can play with sound!
I’m glad you saw the cobwebs, I didn’t!
Your car is entered.
One neat thing about a camera car is it helps you to ‘see’ where your trackwork could use improvement.
I don’t think the 45 tonner will fit through that tunnel
Ralph
Actually it did fit but I held my breath! I made it larger last year so the Shay would fit in it’s height. I never thought about the width! I haven’t measured it but I think the centercab fit by 1/4-inch!
Mik, you are right about the trackwork but the train-height view really showed me where to make structure changes.
Great camera car and nice video.
Thought I saw the mountains behind Wrightwood near the beginning of the video.
Doug nice video and tour of the layout. Try setting the pixels on your camera to the highest setting that will clear up the the scenery in the distance. I really enjoy making videos of the trains. Wait till you discover windows movie maker or Apples version.
When I built the camera car I wanted it to be several things/ 1) It had to be simple. 2)It was an operating ore car and that provided me with something in the foreground. .

- Since I use it for an ore car the top of the camera platform was removable so it could be converted back to an ore car in seconds. Just a matter of covering the lower platform.

You did Gary!
I’ll try to get the 45 tonner out tomorrow and show you how tight the squeeze is! I may have to make the tunnel off-limits!
Shawn, I think that once I figure out how Apple’s iMovie works I’ll really be able to dress it up. I really like that little Nikon. I just have to figure out how to increase the pixel, it’s a 14 megapixel camera.
Doug, I could swear I saw your #29 duck when it went through the tunnel! Better check that height again.
Nice video. I must come up there soon and make a site inspection.
You ought to see the Shay duck. Engines sure got bigger the last few years.
I have rescheduled the open house for the layout for June 16.
