Tom Miller's layout

Guys,
The owner of my LHS lent me this DVD.

What a freakin’ layout!
For you NG lovers, it is the best indoor F scale layout I have ever seen.
He uses Accucraft loco’s and a combination of scratch and store rolling stock.
Everything is animated and lit, complete interiors, etc. A working stamp mill.

He built a special building just for the layout.

It is located near Portland, Or, and was open during the last NG convention.

Check out the preview on the website.

Very interesting. Was there something written up about this in a magazine or online here? The front of the place looked familiar. Maybe it was a highlight of the tours of the NG Convention?

Ric,
It has appeared in at least two Narrow Gauge & Shortline Gazettes. (That I know of.)

I forgot to mention, it is TP with DCC. I’d have to watch it again to be sure, but I think he said Zimo decoders and PX sound.

freakin’ amazing…

Here’s some more.
Layout not finished.
Watch the end of the video. You can see Tom Miller walkiing across his outside “ride on” trestle.

I just ordered two CD’s. One of the indoor “F” scale layout and the other of the outdoor layout. Tom Miller is an old friend of mine at Los Angeles Live Steamers. I learned to fire oil on his 1.5 scale Pacific about 28 years ago. What fun!!

Wow–that’s amazing

A naive question–who is Tom Miller, and what does he do for a living?

Many years ago, he lived in Corona Del Mar near Newport Beach, CA. Retired at 30 I believe. Had a warehousing business of some kind.

I’ve seen some short vid’s on Ebay, this looks interesting. Thanks

I read about it in a couple recent issues of the Gazette. An amazing layout. Personally, I think he’s missing most of the fun by farming out the structures and scenery. On the other hand, I wouldn’t be able to scratchbuild all those cool live steam locos he has.

On the DVD there’s a short segment showing him riding his scratch-built K.
The reason his trains are so high in the building, he is 6 ft 7" tall.

My LHS friend said he also has a live steam ride on Big Boy, among others.

Must be nice to have more money than Gates, huh?
