Tom Daschle withdraws nomination over tax problems

Daschle took the high road and removed himself. How gallant.

I heard a suggestion that to restore confidence in our government all the current office holders in Congress, the Executive Branch and the Judicial Branch should be audited.

Sounds like a plan to me.

The other thought is to just plead the Geithner/Daschle defense if audited. At least you might not have to pay a penalty.

Ric:

Thanks for the update!

At least Daschle appears to have some shred of decency about him. It still doesn’t address the fact that this guy who has earned over 5 million dollars in the 2 years since he was voted out of office is a serious tax evader. His recent finding of his tax “mistakes” are pure BS. He would never have reported the 3 years of income that are in question if he had not been nominated for the HHS position.

We have a similar tax evader in the form of Timothy Geithner. This guy absolutely shouldn’t have been considered as Secretary of the Treasury, much less confirmed.

It is interesting to read the praise that virtually all the Senate members are heaping on these scoundrels. Especially the ones who continue to maintain Daschle should have been confirmed.

BHO has clearly broken the pledge he made to CHANGE the way business is done in Washington. I assume he wasn’t able to find enough honest people to help him get his ACORN payoff / stimulus program passed, so he continues to put forward these low life types and addresses any critics by using the Bill Clinton method: Lie and move on.

Some CHANGE!

Happy RRing,

Jerry

Geithner is very powerful. You don’t become President of the NY Fed without very powerful friends.
We have 100 Senators. You only have one President of the NY Fed.
Ralph

We might as well add another one to the list:

““Nancy Killefer, President Barack Obama’s pick to be Chief Performance Officer, dropped out of contention Tuesday due to income tax issues””

tsk, tsk, tsk

Perhaps some might be interested in the whole story…just saw Mr. Obama apologize on national TV, express his irritation at HIMSELF and his team, and did something the previous resident rarely did…took full responsibility. So where is the “Lie and move on”???

BHO’s direct quote:

“Did I screw up in this situation?..absolutely. But let’s look at the full picture and move on.” The lying scoundrel!

???

One wonders why the usual suspects aren’t screaming from the rafters about these tax cheats… Oh, yeah, silly me. Bush is out of office, and BHO is Their Guy, now. How could I forget?

Mark:

I haven’t yet seen BHO’s apology. I am impressed that he would do that, but with literally hundreds of investigators to vet the people he is putting forward, how does it come to pass that so many of his vetted choices are seriously tainted?

I assume that along with the apology, he has asked for Timothy Geithner’s resignation so he can be replaced with a citizen who hasn’t made hundreds of thousands of dollars in “mistakes” on their income taxes, nor been a leader of the financial debacle currently being played out.

As to looking at the full picture, my vision shows that President Obama is just another lying politician. He promised CHANGE, with several specifics, but mostly appoints his political buddies, many of whom have serious performance and / or honesty issues.

Try to find a wealthy person who hasn’t cheated on their taxes, employed a housekeeper “off the books” or employed an undocumented worker.
If you find one, we should make them King

In my opinion Geithner should have been withdrawn, and Daschle should have been withdrawn days ago. Both men’s conduct was ridiculous and shows how out of touch they are with the realities most Americans face. They are very different things–Geithner’s conduct was less objectionable than Daschle’s but I thought Geithner was a bad choice for Treasury sec. to begin with because he’s too much of an insider. Yeah, it’s a hard job but the Treasury secretary is not required to be an agent of large banks. Daschle’s conduct shows the extraordinary sense of insider entitlement that characterizes both parties in Washington.

Obama has admitted he screwed up; he’s admitted it multiple times, which speaks well of him. But in my opinion he’s erred by relying far too much on insiders. He wants to avoid what everyone says was Jimmy Carter’s big mistake, which everyone says was bringing in too many “outsiders” and not cultivating the existing DC power structure. You could praise Obama for this–he has three Republicans in his cabinet, for example. It might make him more effective in the end, but less radical, which should please those here who claimed he was trying to introduce socialism.

Change you can believe in…!

Bush gives 700 Bill to Wallstreet with no serious strings or oversight.

BHO says top execs limeted to 500K a year if they want Fed $$$. Some big wigs are thinking it’s not worth the “tiny” salary to go on the public dole.

I am not a rabid leftie, to the contrary I usually vote 'Publican. I like what I’m seeing so far. To be fair we have a long way to go…

The bottom line always seems to involve greed and the entitlement class of those in and around Washington, DC. I feel the corruption is so imbedded into the fabric of how our government operates that CHANGE is almost impossible. When the corrupt politicians get thrown out of office through an elections they just become influence peddlars and the corruption continues. Its interesting to see how many retired, or removed, government employees become consultants.

The General Accounting Office, House and Senate Oversight Committees are just the “Fox watching the Hen House” - don’t expect change and you won’t be dissapointed.

Always humorous to watch.

Help is on the way folks! California is leading the way with their proposed “I.O.U.” policy regarding tax refunds. No longer will cash be required to pay taxes. Just send the IRS your soon to be legal tender I.O.U.

I like it!

Isn’t that pathetic???!!! Seems they are more concerned on marriage rights and car exhaust then meeting their obligations to their own citezens!!! California is a perfect example of government run amok.

Some of my fellow citizens of the Peoples Republic of California have asked if the IOU’s will be accepted to pay state fees such as motor vehicle licenses, etc. The answer is absolutely not, and anyone doing so will be subject to the same penalties as if the fee was not paid!

Next will be court filings by everyone in sight with millions going to attorneys to fight over money that isn’t there.

Meanwhile, the politicians in the capital just continue business as usual. I’m certain that many (MOST) of them, like our U.S. Senators, don’t pay their own taxes and we know they get 100% state paid cars, maintenance, fuel and insurance, along with per diem that makes corporate expense accounts look puny. Why should they worry about doing anything to halt the bleeding of the state budget, recently put at $41 billion?

We need to impeach everyone of them, starting with Arnold Schwarzenegger (Governor), Karen Bass (Speaker of the Assembly) and John Chiang (State Controller). Nothing short of that would seem to get their attention.

President Obama on the “buy American” provisions in the stimulas bill: “Obama replied, “I don’t want provisions that are going to be a violation of World Trade Organization agreements or in other ways signal protectionism”

Tell me how this is a change from “W” and his cronies. Our former President’s favorite topic was warning us against protectionism.
Like I said before, only the face of the puppet has changed. Puppet masters remain the same.

Why should this surprise anyone, Democrats always tax everyone else, then never pay there own tax bill!!

Buy American and protect our jobs. Plain and simple.
Do your homework.
I bought my wife a Buick Lucerne instead of a Buick LaCrosse. The Lucerne, made in Michigan. The LaCrosse made in Canada.
Buy a Toyota or Nissan, as long as they are models built in the US.
We are a debtor nation because we now produce very little and import nearly everything.

So plain and simple as you say…do you buy any toy trains made in China??? How 'bout Germany? You could buy only american made trains (HLW) or used early Lionel ‘G’ on ebay. We could also scrath build only, assuming we could verify the wood and plastic we use came from US sources. Do you watch TV on an American set or surf the net on a US computer? I “buy American” when I have two equal choices to pick from, I will even pay a penalty to a certain extent, but buying everything American is not always possible and buy the trains, cars, or electronics you wish. Two of my three cars are American built but one has a high Canadian parts content.

I remember that clown Ioccaca (sp?) telling us to “Buy American” while his comany was importing huge numbers of imports and slapping an “American” label on them. If the big 3 want us to “buy American” they should practice what they preach, “plain and simple”.
