Todd's build challenge Log

It could have been the cat except we don’t have one… For all of those who have been hanging by the edge of their keyboards all weekend for an update here it is! Progress was made. Stay tuned for further reports… LOL Actually…

I realised I had made a mistake with the cab when I forgot to leave out the notch on the left side for the fuel tank I believe so I had to carefully cut that out and build it in. This build is slow going since I have never done anything like this and I find myself second guessing like “If this piece goes there then how will I attach the next piece how will it look and how will it operate??” Slow going but it is coming along.

Here you can see it coming together. I will be using H+K couplers so I needed to get the height right and figure a way to make the platform steps on the end so they won’t get in the way. Not photographed are 3 “tanks” I cut out of a dowel for each side then one on the back as can be seen in the proto photos. I plan on using the headlites that were part of the car and put those on the roof. I’m toying with making the lift bars and a few other details then it will be off to the paint shop.

Looking GREAT Todd,
Keep up the GOOD WORK.

Looks real good. This is an interesting model. I have the same Kinsey book that inspired you and liked that pic too.

Tom

That Kinsey book is great.
A bit more was done tonight on the build.
The couplers were attached as well as the new end beams, the steps front and back, the stirrup steps and side pockets.
Coming together but a ways to go.

Does this help? Late, I know, but I just found this thread.
This is a 6-6- M.A.C. Close to what your Kinsey photo shows. Hope I can post this well enough.

Well, I tried to post part of a M.A.C. cab drawing. But…nothing. I guess I need to read pix posting directions somewhere. This was my first attempt on this forum for photos.
Dennis

Try again…

Hmmmm. With this, cutting and pasting, it comes up OK on my browser.

That is an interesting drawing you guys posted. It looks like the driveshaft exits the engine then goes back to a transmission of sorts then forward to the front wheels and I’m sure to the rear as well It was a 4x4 !
My freelance, built to no particular scale, good enough for me and my RR MAC speeder is coming along. Soon it will get painted.
Todd

Todd,

That appears to be (could be) a 4X4 transfer case, driving both front and rear axles. Without the back half of the drawing it is hard to tell for sure. Would definitely give better traction than just one axle driving.

Bob C.

Yes, it’s a 4x4. The Transfer case is, “tipped,” so fore and aft drive lines can have room. It’s from my original Skagit, (M.A.C.) drawing, so it’s the real thing for the 6-60 model. They were beefy cars. Skagit built a lot of stuff, mostly for loggers. Even locomotives and one still exists in running condition.

Progress has been made on the build and it is looking good. Photos coming soon.
Todd

Get the cat to coff up the camera and post…

OK it has been a time since I last posted some photos of my build and it is coming along nicely. Here are the main bits on for a test fit.

Next up is to attach the roof and headlight and the back door I made plus add the details like a horn etc…

THE END IS NIGH and I gotta get moving on this build! It is almost done but still lots to do. I picked up 2 link and pin couplers at the Springfield show yesterday so that brings my total $ for this project to under $18.
Today I plan on doing more details.

Looking Good

The link and pins are on and tonight I made up and installed some lift levers and painted them black. It is just about finished.

That Looks really cool!! Todd…

Thanks Travis

My project is done and just in time too . I added alot of detail today, chains, boxes, barrels and other details including dirt. Photos and maybe a video coming tomorrow. Watch here and the other link of finished projects fro photos.

Here we go its DONE! This project really stretched my modelling skills and I am very happy with how it turned out. It was fun to build this and follow along with what other guys have been doing all month long. Many Thanks to Dave Taylor for starting alot of us off with his gondola kit. I ended up spending about $18 for the RC car and link and pin pockets and the rest of the build was made from scrap and scrounged from the parts bin or robbed from old dusty shelf queens. The competition was very high this year due to all you skilled guys out there working your magic and you should be proud of what you built so without further ado presented here is my humble submission.

Hey wait a minute where is the freight shed button?
