Do you live your life cooped up in a little hidey hole? No friends, Mommy tuck you in at night. I should say no Bs since your work is always done in the dark of cyberspace.Somebody pi you off and you’re not man enough to face them or is it since you don’t have a life noone else should.
Hey you got us oooohh, we be scared now oooohhh.
No chat so I’ll just have to work on my stuff or do some research. What you can’t f… with that dang now what ya gonna do.
I might e-mail some friends don’t know what they are huh, look it up in the dictionary
Yep like I said ya got me.But, unlike you I have other things to do.
I won’t go someplace else, I like it here I have friends.
I’d ask you to show yourself but when you lack b**s it’s rarely done.

My thoughts as well Dave. We just don’t know whether this is just a random hack or a server problem or someone actually trying to get members to move to another site. If it’s the latter, a little hacking won’t get me to move. When I first stumbled across large scale last year I found many forums that I read for days, then I came onto LSC and knew this was the site that I would register on and become a part of a community of like minded individuals. This is my site of choice and won’t be going anywhere else!
As a side note I tried to figure out how to put something in the ‘tip jar’ but couldn’t. I think we should all maybe take a stroll past the ‘jar’.

Seems rather odd too me that the last time this happened the webmaster/site owner stated (privately) that he was going to ECLS show. I’m beyond being mad, maybe ticked off or perhaps just disappointed and have no clue as too why one that follows this site would want to hack it?
To each their own I guess?

Thanks for the LARGE SCALE CENTRAL site as the Rooster has never posted elsewhere and probably never will as this is a hobby and not a competition in my opinion. Just enjoy the folks here no matter what scale, experience, skills or detail level we model on it’s all good and I totally appreciate/respect it.

I thank you for the work you do too make this site happen. I know you will get too the bottom of this!

I’m not so sure this is a hack. It looks to me like a major performance problem with the database server that Bob has been talking about retiring. Chat will eventually load, as will pictures in articles. Not usable, but not entirely broken either.

Jon, You're probably right. We've had similar issues before. Either way, things are a bit limited until Bob returns. Ralph

Jon,
I know little about the workings of computers. But the coincidence of this glitch in chat occurring the day Bob goes away for a little relaxation, and the glitch last time the day Bob left for the ECLSTS (if you recall he no sooner got to the show than he wanted to head home to work on the problem) seems to preclude happenstance.
I’m sure Bob will remedy the problem in the near future and let us know what happened.
Maybe I should have headed this as " If a hacker" but I had a need to vent knowing that the vent would accomplish little.
I would feel great if it’s just a glitch and not an individual. But if an individual it would be nice if they have the where-with-all to stand up and show face instead of hiding behind this cloak of invisibility.

I too suspest it is just a server problem although I wouldn’t know the difference.

I hope Bob is getting some rest, he’ll need his energy when he gets back!

I look at it this way. Not many years ago we didn’t even have an internet!

Hollywood,
The hack this Spring included attempts to download malicious software. We have no attempt to do so this time around.
It was most likely “non-personal”, just crooks trying to steal whatever information they could.

The last hack, when they deleted our freight sheds, was either “personal”, or kids just playing around. Nothing crooks would bother with.

Bob has had problems with the picture server before. What is different this time, is the pictures are displaying on the home page.
Usually the home page does not even load when this problem comes up. But Bob has been making a lot of changes, so this really does not tell us anything.

Bottom line, as long as we are not running into attempts to download malicious software, there is probably nothing to worry about.
But it sure is a PIA for those of us who use the Freight Sheds to host our pictures.

i would not overrate the whole affair.
sh… happens.
my pics were gone for nearly a whole month, before they got around to fix it.
if one takes in account the nature of the net, it is a miracle, how much time it works without problems.

Power failure with the Freightsheds server. I’m back home for a day, and restarted it. Ill be gone again tomorrow until Sunday. Sorry for the interruption.

EDIT:

The Freight Sheds are getting a major overhaul. Some of you saw the preview in chat last week. Here’s how its gonna go.

Some time in the next couple of weeks, I’ll “freeze” uploading to the ‘old’ freight sheds on lscdata.com.

I’ll copy everyone’s files from the old shed server to the new one. I’ll also ‘turn on’ the new Freight Shed code, and disable the old code. I’ll keep the lscdata.com files in-place for 60 or 90 days, to give everyone enough time to change URLs to point to their new freight shed.

The new server is a redundant, high-security, etc etc instead of the inexpensive host I’m using for it now. Much better.
