About this time last year the the large scale community lost a fellow model rail and many of us lost a good friend. In his memory the RC&G today ran a special train. Pulled by the RC&G’s own #14 was a consist of former DS&RG rolling stock. The train traversed the length of the line and on the return trip stopped on the S curve trestle at the upper end of Raccoon Gully where it paused for one minute of silence followed by a one minute whistle salute to our fallen friend. As the whistle echoed and reverbered up and down the gully I could almost feel the big guy looking over my shoulder. Where he is now I’m sure the tracks are always clear and the batteries always charged and he can run trains when ever he wants. I would like to think that he would be pleased that his handy work is still being operated and enjoyed.
Yeah Gary, there are people that make an impression on you, that you’ll never forget. Every time I look at that 2007 Convention, I think of him hawking how great it was going to be. And I hope it is, for Tiny’s sake if nothing else. Thanks for sharing. Shared a cold one with him, I guess in Cincinnati. I can remember the bar, but not the town.
Thanks for this post, Gary. Tiny was very special to me, he was the first guy that I chatted with oh these many years ago, and we rode the CTS together in 2001. Always had a kind word, or encouragement for some seemingly doomed project. He was a genuine good guy, definately larger than life, and I miss him a lot.
Thanks, Gary! Wonderful tribute to a wonderful guy! I was on the road when I heard about his passing and it made the trip even longer because of the shock of hearing it.
And yea, Ric, first time I met him was in Cincy and shared an ice tea with him… I can echo the sentiments of the rest of you cause I miss the guy too!
Good friends, good times…
Tiny was a gracious host for the day I spent in his neck of the woods.
Dinner and the Show in Tahoe will always be remembered.
I’ll miss him.
Nice gesture…I didnt know Tiny but it seams to me another nice way to remember a friend would be to rename a locomotive in his memeory?
Thank you, Gary…a little bit of Tiny’s spirit, will always be with me…Thank you, Tiny, for allowing me to call you a friend.
Very cool pictures! Although I never knew him, it seems to me he was very well liked around here,
A wonderful tribute Gary. Thank you very much. I met Tiny in person at the garden railway convention in Sacramento after chatting with him many, many times here on LSC. It’s a measure of the person when he is so well remembered and thought of by so many a year after his death.
Just to see him on chat again along with George “Stumpy-Jersey George” Thomas would be a delight indeed.
They’re posting in the next chatroom fellas. I’m in no hurry to join 'em but I sure do miss 'em!

I’m currently refreshing the two 4-6-0’s of Tiny’s that I plan to run on the LVGRS modules during the 2007 Convention. Some of his track, bents and one bridge is planned for my new layout too. His jig stone jail will find a prominant place in Pearce, NV. on the far reaches of the Sun City Anthem RR
I am really sorry to hear of Tiny’s passing. I corresponding with him a lot when I first got into this great hobby. My railtoad in the desert got a lot of help (ideas) from him. I will miss him.
How did I miss all of this???
As I have mentioned before, Tiny was the introduction into LS Trains I needed(first real contact)! I came home from Gatlinburg TN after a holiday trip with the fam. determined to find out something about theses “Big Trains” we saw at the local rip-u-off. My Dad was off work for a few more days and passed along a URL he found that led me to Tiny.
I questioned him for days…he was so gracious in all of his responses…he is how I found LSC, MLS and others. I have always planned to have a “Tinys” on the line, prob a Saloon or something…I guess I’ll also now have to add a Tombstone in memory at the church.
What a great dude! He is the reason I bought a Bachmann 4-6-0, decided on Battery and R/C, wanted to model NG Steam, and many other things.
what a guy, and it’s been a year and I didn’t even know…
Dang…

When Tiny passed away, I was up in Cape Breton Island on vacation, and had my cellphone off. When I got back into Maine, I turned it on, and had a message from Bart from a few days beforehand, telling me about Tiny. It hit me as a big shock. I rode the WWFRY later that day, and did so for Tiny.
lifts a rootbeer to him
