Tim's Mik - Playmobile Salvage

Ugh…what have I done? Maybe the work crew used discarded rough-cut planks…

Maybe I have other wood around here somewhere…

Tim,
And thisbis why I like kitbashing. How to make what want out of what you have. I have faith you will find a solution.

And after cutting 10,000 stir sticks for my build i can sympathize

You made a plank floor for your open deck observation car! Steam on!

A little progress, but no pics.

. I put primer and green paint of the future excursion car because that was what I had on hand. The fumes started to get to me, so I fled - hence no pics.

I also started in with couplers. The Playmobile cars have two different breeds of built-in hook-and-loop couplers. Why? I managed to get one set cut down to fit the Bachmann knuckle couplers…but I lack the bolts. Given the snug fit, I might use screws instead.
I also verified that eight 1.2-volt rechargeable AA batteries will move the Playmobile loco - but I lost track of the connectors. I could add more batteries but have no idea what the true power requirements are for this thing. Not expecting much, just tow three or four cars for ten or fifteen minutes.

the playmobil transformer/controller of that era, that i got, says it is 0 to 14 Volts
but for years i have been running them from the older 0 to 18 Volts LGB controllers, without problems.

Thank you. The current battery pack is 9.6 volts. Three more 1.2-volt batteries will bring that to 13.2. Close enough. Next up will be finding and removing the RC unit from the Bachmann 10-wheeler…

I tried putting Bachmann knuckle couplers on one of the cars today. It didn’t go well - the ends sagged. There was nothing to bolt onto with the other cars, as the old hook-and-loop couplers has an open frame base.

I ordered some Lionel knuckle couplers. Maybe they will work better.
