The fiasco continues. Thus far, I have had (supposedly) securely glued pieces come apart, had to break apart other glued sections because they were upside down or wrongly oriented, measured thrice, cut twice and botched the cuts both times. (doesn’t count gluing my fingers together twice.) Still, progress of sorts is being made.

no stranger to mistakes, I made plenty with the last two buildings, but this is a bit out of hand.

The yellow inside the structure is construction paper - much of the wood is salvage from even more spectacularly failed projects, and I’d used ordinary construction paper as mock carpet and wall paper.

Tell me about it. I had to completely start over from scratch. (Fortunately I was able to make something out of the abandoned start.)

The disaster continues. Decided against using the LEMAX stone mat as a foundation, instead said ‘screw it,’ and started cutting and gluing the scribed siding in place. Botched a couple cuts, ended up having to piece together the far wall (fortunately, that will be out of sight from casual observation). The siding has an annoying tendency to curl once glue is applied,

Maybe a contact cement would prevent the water based glue warpage… or a gel CA.

Mistakes are learning aids.

well, the siding is on the church now…though that still leaves the priests quarters. Might try different glue there.

trim should hide the really visible flaws…after all, that’s what its for, right?

Drat. I KNEW I shouldn’t have done it. I KNEW…but I went and tossed that chimney on my workbench last week…and the mess is such I can’t find it. Guess I’ll systematically sift through the whole pile tomorrow…

found it. but how did it migrate to the bottom of the pile? I really do need to clean that table off…

slow painful progress continues.

The priest figure arrived - technically he’s closer to 1:32 than 1:24…but it’s a background structure. I keep telling myself that.

Botched the cuts for the main roof section twice, (after measuring thrice), decided to use the pieces anyhow. Holding off for a bit before setting the next two pieces in place. Grey cardboard shingles should cover the flaws. Still trying to decide just where to put the chimney, which is why the clerics quarters are roofless. (I think he’s upset about that.)

Anyhow, the shrine as it stands now, with the priest surveying his dominion…

The priest is wearing red! It’s Epiphany! Send him back him back to seminary immediately! I had a hard time getting stuff to stick to our bakery, too, without it warping. I used TiteBond III and weighted objects with some success. Note the word “some.”

Hard to see in the pic, but the priest has the sort of wide eyed goofy grin some people get when they’re pretending really hard to be pleased. As this is envisioned to be a rundown church in a seedy part of town…yeah, that’s understandable.

That said, this project has been definitive proof of Murphy’s Law - the measures never seem to match the cuts, the wood is warped, the glue don’t want to stick…background structure…I keep telling myself that. Just today I broke my exacto knife cutting some trim.

Tim, even with the trials you are being put through the build is looking good.

I must say that with owning one myself, I do believe that worm drive saw may be a bit heavy for our building purposes.

Got the roof base glued on, along with the base for the steeple…with surprisingly few mishaps…

Put the chimney together, decided it needed a fireplace to sprout from even though the priests quarters will be…extremely hard to glimpse. Played around with damaged 1/24 dollhouse stuff and bits and scraps…now he has a fireplace, wardrobe, and a bed. Not all that great, and in need of fine tuning, but…

Tim,

Every project I apply my conservative measure 45 times and cut once rule. If two pieces come out the same, it is by accident! You are way ahead of me here!

despite ongoing calamities, I might actually finish this project by the deadline.

mostly trim, figuring out how to fix the steeple (white paper, pen, and brown magic marker), and the last bit of roof for the priests quarters. And the cross atop the dome.

Barring unusual circumstances, these pics show the sides that will be casually visible.
