Large Scale Central

Time to put your money etc

Boy, listening to this thread about a train as not yet produced, and it already sucks so bad, I am surprised Aristo is still around.

I know from past threads LGB pretty much sucked too, and B-man is crap. USA seems marginal, Piko is junk…Where does a guy go to get a decent mass produced train?

If they make one I’ll most likely buy. It has nothing to do with “drinking Kool-aid”, and I am not a B&O fan. I have VERY little Aristo but my last RS-3 purchase tells me there is much to like about them. I like the model, it’s growing on me. I think I’ll get an undecorated one and letter it for the Great Northern…I’m sure they didn’t have one but it will look good pulling my USA GN ore cars (I know, they’re too high, poorly spaced, old Lionel crap tooling, etc). Actually, if USA ever comes out with their DM&IR ore cars I’d rather letter it for DMIR.

I understand this is an “enthusiast” sight, but to me no one seems too “enthused”.

Mark,

You’ve got it wrong… These are criticisms of a product in the design stage. We know that someone at Aristo sneaks a look here once in a while, and will read them. Probably, these have already been noticed by the design team and have been corrected. If not, then they have the chance to take a second, third or 53rd look at the prototype model and fix it. It could be just the angle of the photo that throws us off, ya know.

In any case, I have already ordered my GN model. It will be in the first run, so you won’t have to paint your own.

Not a prototype, lewis says:

“The product shown at the York Show is the final version from the molds. These are test shots, not hand built models and the molds are made already. What you see is what you’re going to get.”

Now it really doesn’t make sense. Isn’t the mold-making process where all the money is? If he did that on spec, why not invest a few thousand more in styrene pellets and Chinese labor and build a short run to test the water?

Probably has to order so many thousand to get the per unit price he needs.

A little birdie once told me that the Chinese OEMs “adjusted” their practice to go with the times i.e. if you order X number of units the price will reflect the volume, however you pay for the complete run as it is produced, not as you call up whatever fraction of the total run.

Now that is indeed good news. Time to order some more USA ore cars I think!

Sitting in a city park in (I think) Wenatchee, Wa. Maybe Yakima, Wa. I dunno fer sure. It’s a tall bugger, also.

Nice pic John, one just like that please. I love the “Big Boys” but they just don’t look right to me on anything less than 20’ curves. I wanted a Triplex for the “wow” factor but it just does not fit the rest of my livery. This bugger might just do the trick.

Not sure why but when I see this loco I think “Casey Jones”.

About three or four times a year for the last few years, I’ve been posting this photo on the Aristo site in the hopes that the squeaky wheel gets the grease. This is the locomotive I grew up with, and rode my bike past on the way to Appleyard.

Hopefully, Lewis took the hint. I told him he could leave the pigeon poop out. :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s not bird poop, it’s scale detailing!

It would make a nice mate to my GN 4-4-2.

Oh, I should add the piping on the side would make a nice scale detail while helping hide the gap between the drivers and the boiler.

AristoCraft locos having scale details. Now that is something I would like to see. Add on would be fine.

I like it. I will have to call my hobbie shop and let them know i would like one.
