Time to divert the the pump and get water in the stream

I mentioned in the Fall that we developed a problem that drained all the water out of the pond. Thought it might be a leak in the stream liner or anything else was possible. Well put everything together and got it flowing today. No problems. So the best that I can figure is we had a small ice damn that diverted the water enough it flowed out of the liner of the riverbed. The worse was that Jan lost all her fish. A couple of them were over 10 years old. They were all bought at WalMart for about $0.07 each, so not a major monetary loss. But Jan was upset and if Jan is upset, everybody is upset. New fish to be purchased with granddaughter this coming week.

Bottom line, I should have divereted the water flow from the stream a little earllier. Next year plan on having it done by middle of November. I guess Global Warming didn’t help this time. Wonder if we could get Algore to pay for the new fish. ;-). Oops, better be good or this will have to be moved to “Off-Topic”.

Ric…will I even have any fish in the pond when the ice melts…? The frost went VERY deep this year. Although we have had some mild weather around here in Ottawa, the frost is still in the ground…
I guess it’s time to retreat to the bed for another week or so of hibernation…

Spring is coming, but it seems that it wants to move up here slowly; of course it is still just the first half of March, and this time last year we had a dump of 2 feet of snoe overnight.

Fred,
I agree that this weather may not be through with us. The plow and chains are still on the lawnmower. Around here the early flowers arre starting to come up and everything is buding. Time to thin back plants and get the tall grasses cropped back.

Oh. They even survived having a boy dropped on them.

We did manage to get 6 trees relocated from our ““tree nursery””… Jane got pictures of the Layout, so she can take pictures in the fall, to compare the difference of plant growth season to season, for an upcoming “Clinic” next Feb…

Did get to see the results of the wind yesterday, right after the storn went through… Neighbors shed, that was tied down and in front of his garage, is now a roll of sheet metal, laying in his field, not resembling much of a shed…

Layout held up good, throught the winter… If it dries out any, we can start work on it again…

I still have another month before I can turn any water on. It would be nice to see things start growing out this way. I still have another month plus. :frowning: I just hope all by dwarf alberta spruces make it. A few of them have brown tips. The winds dont help around here.
