Tie in the College

Can you imagine a 269 - 269 tie in the Electoral College? It could happen.

The outcome would be a President Obama elected by the House, and a Vice President Palin (or perhaps even McCain?) elected by the Senate, if Leiberman voted with the Republicans and Cheney broke the 50 - 50 tie.

What a country!

Yeah and we’re past Halloween! BTW on the CBC Morning show we got the “electoral college 101”. Sounded to me like the typical “we can’t trust anyone … we need safeguards” scenario of a paranoid bunch at the end of the 18th Century. What a Country!

Yup. That’s how it came to be.

But then, sometimes I think they were right.

HJ,

Are you saying you would trust somebody from Chicago, instead? OH MY!

Ric,

From what I gather that whole mid-America strip is a bit suspect, from the Canadian border right down to the Mexican border. At least Chicago has the right moniker - Windy City - that tends to blow the smell in another direction.

This State is so broke they can’t even pay the interest on what they owe. The governor (purposeful use of a little g) has refused to pay any bills, since May, because it might impact the election, but the state keeps collecting our money that is supppose to be used to pay the bills. There was a junior state senator, that became a jujior US Senator that was part of this. If things go wrong, there is one good thing out of this. He’s everybodies problem, not just ours.

We have had 19 governors sent to jail after their terms were up. Chicago is 5 hours away and Springfield is 2.

The Electoral College was created so that states with large populations would not be able do unilaterally decide presidential elections, disenfranchising those with smaller populations. Can you imagine New York City deciding the presidential election? Oh, the horror!

The College is not antiquated.

I see it wasn’t a problem this time around. What was the score? 349 for Obama, 162 for McCain.
