Thrift Store train score

For all my stress at work the gods of model railroading were generous to me this weekend, I scored big, really big, at one thrift store a Lionel O gauge Disney train set, nothing special, it’s a cheap DC set but perfect for a microlayout bash I have in mind, I can carve it up without guilt. And Sunday the BIG score, at the Goodwill, 4 in box LGB freight cars and a partial LGB 73968 set, it’s just missing the track and pp. The Disney set set was $45, the LGB cars were $20 each and the LGB set was a mind-blowing $40. I am planning to sell three of the LGB cars on the Facebook Swap & Shop site later this week. I’m keeping the 30170 Field car. The cars I’m selling are 42390, 40220, & 40230 They are all European style, I dont think there would be any interest here.

Hey, that is cool! An uplifting score does a person good. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif)

Nice score!

The best I’ve ever seen are the New Bright and similar (cheaper) sets. Not worth even carrying out of the store.

I like the New Bright tank cars.

I grab New Blight cars whenever I see them just for their trucks. I modify them with Bachmann small dia wheels and Bmann knuckles. I then turn around and put them onto whatever two axle Scientific/EzTec cars I can find. I like the Scientific cars because they are larger, almost 1.22.5ish in scale and with the New Blight trucks and couplers added work rather excellently on my line as they are not overly long so they dont crowd the layout.

I also take New Blight boxcars, chuck the shells and add a basswood deck to make El Cheepo flatcars and do the same to NB cabeese to make logging cars.

We don’t even have enough of a model railroad presence out here to make any of this possible. On-line sales ask ridiculous prices, reflecting market scarcity and consumer ignorance. Envious…But, then again, I can go to the beach in February!

I love the beach in february…none of those pesky sun bathers!

Decided to post it here as well.

That is a nice score Vic.

The last thing I found at the transfer stations swap shop was a small bulldozer which upon closer inspection turns out to be a battery powered Marx. I plan on weathering it up and putting it out on the RR.
