Those bloody microsoft idiots have struck again

Mike

Again, as I stated, your Backup application is different than your Windows Restore. I highly suggest you do not attempt to restore from your Backup unless you are experiencing a total breakdown of the machine. Depending on exactly what you are backing up will more than likely leave your machine in an undesirable state if you attempt to restore unless you know exactly what it is going to restore. On the other hand, Windows Restore will preserve your data when restoring to a previous time/date stamp. If you are trying to remove the update to your email (which is how this whole new thread got started) Windows Restore is what you want to do.

OK Timmy , that’s what I will try .
Thanks ,
Mike

Here's how you do it:
  • Click Start
  • Click Programs
  • Click Accessories
  • Click System Tools
  • Click System Restore

NOTE: This is where you can manually tell the computer to create a Restore Point prior to any new software installation.

  • Select Restore my computer to an earlier time
  • Click NEXT
  • Restore points will be highlighted in BOLD
  • When you select a date with the highlighted BOLD the right hand pane will tell you information about that particular Restore Point
  • Select the Restore Time/Date you desire
  • Click NEXT
  • The computer will run part of the restore and then automatically reboot the machine to complete.

…Mike…

The solution is to send me your Email Address…and you will be introduced to the “Cycle of Fiends”…and other like minded “Preventers of Email frenzy”…

ummmmm… hmmmmmmmm…

Mike… how did the RESTORE go per the instructions?

Timmy ,
I have printed your instructions , and will try it when I have to , I don’t wish to appear ungrateful , but don’t believe in fixing it if it ain’t broke .I still get my Google toolbar by selection , except occasionally when for some obscure reason I get Yahoo Canada . Most odd , but again , moused out quite easily .

Most certainly you should not perform a system Resotre unless you have to. That however, is how all of this new thread got started as you recall because you downloaded something you did not want.

Yes , Timmy , quite so . I am heeding the advice you gave --quite rightly , I hasten to add --not to fiddle with things . You didn’t actually put it like that , you are far too polite to do that , but I got the message . And also appreciate the trouble you have gone to to try to help . I shall of course try it , I am sure your instructions are sound --dare I say foolproof ? I shall let you know .
Mike

Timmy ,
I did a system restore , and it did the trick , as you predicted .
It also stopped an irritating feature whereby when I highlighted a "bookmark " , the system picked up the Yahoo address UNDER the displayed bookmarks --hence me getting Yahoo Canada for some odd reason . And a few other things as well .
Thanks , you did good .

The only reason it would have stopped the "irritating feature" you describe is because you restored the computer to a previous state prior to that feature being introduced to the computer. Which is exactly what the system restore function is designed to do.

Thank goodness; looks like our brave young Mikey has fought off the devils of 'puter world, with the help of young Timothy…great work, guys…sorry I couldn’t help; I’m a computor illiterate “Twit”…yes…I said it ABOUT MYSELF…!!!

I just get the machine set up by a guy around here, and don’t fool with it…I just write notes to this forum, and bore everyone with my simplicity…!!

…I can’t even post pictures…I don’t know how; and I don’t even own a camera. I learned long ago that any pictures I ever took; were not worth the trouble…it just isn’t something I wanted to master…

Come to think of it; I'm a master of very little except, somehow; SURVIVING, in spite of the buggars......!!!!

…now; at this point I should give you my recipe for combined, Pumpkin and mincemeat pie…

Pick up a bunch of good frozen pie shells; a large can of Pumpkin pie filling mix (And all the things you need for that mix), and alarge can or bottle of the best mincemeat pie filling you can get; hopefully made with real rum...

Divide the mincemeat pie filling between the pie shells, filling them no more than half full.
....then after making up the Pumpkin pie filling; pour it into the half full pie shells, as a second layer, untill full.
Bake in the oven using temperatures and times suggested for a pumpkin pie.....

Enjoy...

If you have any Pumpkin pie filling left over…enjoy it as a great pudding dessert.
I like the LIBBY’S Pumpkin pie filling the best, if it is available in your getto.

Enjoy a few glasses of a good Merlot, while preparing the pies…

Fred,

Until the other week - was in the G&M regarding Sleeman - I had no idea that there was a beer called “Holy Water”. hehehehe I thought you made up all of that good stuff. Do they sell that in Ont or do you get it in Hull??

…Sleeman bheer, and there are a variety of types; are available across Canada. (Even in Hull…!!!)

The one I like best is “Honey Brown”…in fact along with the American “J.W.Dundee Honey Brown”; I enjoy both of them.

…Ahhh yes…“holy water”, not to be confused with, what some religious groups put so much emphasis on…“Holy Water”…after all; the Branch Railroadians are NOT a religious cult of any kind…they are a “Fellowship” of like minded “Railroaders”.

The holy waters I talk about, are “All beverages of choice; chosen for their enjoyable qualities, and consumed in moderation; by like minded, enjoyable people”.

Now that Mikey has his 'puter under his complete control; I guess we should find some way to change the title of this thread to “Anything that involves good living”, or it will start confuse the people at Micro Soft, or some unknowing individual from another web site, who has nothing to do but find something to complain about…!!!

Oh well…we never let boredom creep in here…just change the subject in mid stream, and watch out for deep water when the boat tips…!!!

Next someone will drop in with formulas for richer "Flat Head Fuels"....just watch........(: grin
