Large Scale Central

Thomas

Has anyone seen the new Thomas or Percy large scale items from Bachmann yet? I don’t know why, but I’m still interested in getting them…

Jon.

I was told by the Australian agent that deliveries are currently being made to the various agents Worldwide with a co-ordinated release date at the end of November.

There will only be boxed sets at first. No separate items for now.

I know they are going to be big sellers and I am already getting enquiries from a lot of Live Steam operators who want something battery powered for their Grandkids. So they can run them on Grandads BIG layout.

Saw them at the Fall ECLSTS… MUCH nicer than the crappy Lionel ones.

Good plan, T.

Over here it seems that only private importation of separate items will be possible. Luckily, we have a very helpish part-time dealer in Scotland who is prepared to import items rather than the sets, which are not coming to Europe as the voltage is incorrect and Bachmann are not prepared to make a 220V power unit/controller. There is also the little matter of intellectual properties and licensing, both seemingly insurmountable.

Terry.
I think you are wrong re the Bachmann mains controller.
We have had 240 volt mains controllers in Bachmann sets for many years. Prety junky but…
I see no reason why the Thomas sets would be any different.

As to intellectual property rights. I have no idea, but it would seem to me to be somewhat shortsighted for Bachmann to not have the rights for the EU.

I’ve had mine on Pre-order from Trainworld for a while now…we’re waiting! there are a good many shots on the Bmann fora posted by Jack Lynch.

That’s cute, now all I need is grandkids!

I was just wondering how hard would it be to pop that pastey face off and put on a proper smokebox door?

HA HA HA Vic you’re a cut up!! Would you just remove the face or do you have something more sinister in mind ? So when are they do in ???

I wonder if a BBT drive would fit under it? Might haave to check with Barry on that one. Would be a great loco for Christmas time

I’m under the impression from the Bachmann Boards they “may” ship end of November?!?!?!?!?! ANTICIPATE

Do the eyes move?

Greg

The eyes move - the face comes off - and they are on the water!

Yahoo! Gotta order mine…

If I buy one of these they will get the Hannibal Lechter treatment and a more prototypical smokebox door, thats all.

Thanks for the response Jack and welcome to the board. I didn't know you were here.

I’m a bit strapped on cash right now but I will be looking for these sets to be on the shelves soon. I’ll probably wait to buy them until I can check them out in person first. If they are good products I’ll probably pick up more than one of each and sell off my Lionel versions which look ok but run rather poorly.

Actually, are there plans to make any more of the engines/sets that you can tell us about?

I hounded Lionel about more runs of Thomas and James for years with little success until they released Thomas again. Thomas is still a huge draw around here and extremely popular.

Jon.

I actually have a prototypical use for Thomas. At least that’s my excuse for wanting one to run for my 5 y.o. niece

The theme of my railroad is a museum that runs tourist excursions. Many museums / tourist lines run Day out with Thoma events to raise cash. So having Thomas parked in the yard amongst the steam power and vintage diesels would fit right in

I have thought about it, however I already witnessed children standing at my front fence cryin their eyes out screaming I wanna see the twain run while I sat and ate lunch during the work week. So really that’s all I need!!!

Let’s hope the Bachmann had plenty made.
The crummy Lionel versions were selling for a small fortune on eBay.

Thomas is sold out every year at Greenfield Village. It’s amazing at how much business he creates.
