Thomas Yorke 1:20.3 Box Cab Announcement

Tom Yorke has posted the following on the Yahoo One-20point3 Message Board:

“I’ve been working on a kit for a boxcab for several years now and I am finally ready to start casting parts! It will be a resin and white metal body kit for a freelance loco very similar to a GE 25 ton unit. It will be a basic kit to keep costs down. The builder will add whatever details they like. If you are interested, please send me an e-mail and when I have info available I will send to you if you are on the list.”

–AND–

“As soon as I have some more info and photos, I will send out the info. By way of clarification - the model will be in 1/20.3 scale and it uses the Aristo Craft Li’l Critter motor block and (inner) side frames.”

Happy RRing,

Sounds interesting but I have absolutely NO interest in having to go through Yahoo’s stupid registration process. It has never worked for me. Is their any way to find out more without going through Yahoo?

Cost? size?

I just added Tom’s email address to my original post.

Being a sucker for boxcabs in general, I told him Id be interested in one or two. Sounds neat!

Yeah, same here!

Two, semi-permanently connected with battery power and RCS radio control. Wonder if there would be room for a sound system? Matthew (OV) has been pushing for a two motored GE diesel sound system for the B’mann GE 45 tonner. That could also work here!

Tom wrote that he has designed these for the Aristo power block. I’m not familiar with them. Are they available from A’craft as a spare part? I wonder B’mann’s GE 45 tonner trucks would work.

Happy RRing,

Jerry

Our own Gary Buchanan scratchbuilt a pair. I wonder if we can get him to post pictures!

More photos and some assembly photo’s are here… http://raccooncrkrwy.com/Rcgrr-17.htm

Yep, those! Love em!

From the horses mouth. Yes, I am working on the Box Cab. It is a freelance model, but based heavily on the GE 23 ton model. Just a few detail changes that I hope make it more interesting. The prototype is rather plain. It is in 1/20.3 scale but is so small it fits in fine with 1/22.5 too. It will be a resin kit. The Aristo motor block is available as a seperate item for $50, or you can use the Li’l Critter if you happen to have one around. If you send me an e-mail telling me you are interested, I will put you on the list and e-mail the particulars when ready. Probably about a week or so. I have some other goodies getting ready also. The Gable Bottom Hopper and a 6 cylinder infernal combustion engine in resin. That one is almost done. Great for detailing and a nice flat car load too. There is another critter coming that will use this engine in the open engine compartment. It uses a Hartland Mack as a donor. You can see all this on my website in about a week – www.thomasayorke.com. I enjoy doing large scale a lot, so I probably will have many things coming in the future - even though I model personally in Gn15.

Cheers,
Tom

More Box Cab news.
There would have been a rendering posted except the PO lost it and it was Priority to boot! Iam now pouring the resin for the pilot model. I will not have the metal parts yet but I will post some photos on my website next week. It is very similar to the shots above, but the windows in mine are a little different and it has a radiator on the outside of the rear (most people think that is the front!).

In the mean time, I have the Gable Bottom Dumps up there now on the website and they can be ordered for December delivery, however, they will be in short supply for a while, so “earliest postmark” wins for right now. The rest will have to be in January.

Cheers,
Tom Yorke

At last it is posted! I will have some real honost to goodness photos of the model this coming weekend, but for now, the info and rendering has been posted for those who might be interested.

Thanks,
Tom

Yummy. Just my cup of tea.

Drawing from Toms website. A cheque will be in the mail this week.

There are now two photos of the basic resin parts assembled on the Aristo motor block up on my website. Lots of details to go yet, but at least you can see the progress thus far. Starting to look cool! I have the engine and generator done, but not photographed yet. I need to wire it first. More pix to come soon.
