Thomas "Annie" coach gets a facelift

Annies getting a facelift:

More pics as I get further along

Diesel 10 is my man! How do you make him? Like start with what?

David I dont have any idea how to start a G scale Deltic, thats a big engine. I think someone on Gscalemad started building one before the site went kablewie. It may have been resurected on Gscalecentral but I havent seen it. One more overall pic:

Need to start thinking about colors.

Ouch, that first pic hits home, as I am home recovering with a broken (by the doc) nose…

Doc broke your nose? Maybe you should have paid his bill?

Vic,
I am modifying one of the coaches to represent one of Emily’s coaches. These were a three-axle coach with clerestory roof. The LGB clerestory roof moulding from their four-wheel coach line fits perfectly. I will cut up two underframes to make the three-axle chassis. Only problem is the way the clear ‘glass’ is secured. To remove would break the moulding. I do not think that I will be repainting. Will be interested to see how you progress on the repainting.

Hi Tim, Interesting! I was rereading my Thomas Onmibus collection and the original Annie/Clarabell coaches were painted as typical 1940’s era 4 axled bogie coaches much longer than these late Victorian coaches HIT used and Bachmann modeled. I am very tempted to modify this with a pair of LGB coach bogies I have to spare. I’m waffling on colors, I really want blood & custard but am waivering at rattlecanning these. The gloss needs to be buff sanded and as you say, the glass needs alot of masking off.

BTW the paintings in the books collection, once you get past the faces on the engines, are extremely good representations of British rail at the end of steam era, especially the later paintings (albiet idealized images).

Tim BTW are you going to add interiors? these kind of scream for one

Annie starting a basic interior, balsa slabs and chunks

Then painted brown

from the outside makes a nice difference, gives the impression something is inside, will add some seated figures in future

Finally couldnt take those single axles anymore, just too much association with the toy line version so…

Added LGB trucks, got the buffers back to almost exactly the same height as the goods wagon

added a new bolster, 1/2" w x 3/8" h basswood

Side view, the trucks should probably be closer to the ends but the couplers would end up alot farther out too. So I can live with them this way. Now I really need to add the lower running boards.

Still needs painting

The trucks make a difference. So far looking good

Still need to add some detail paintng and a nameplate, I’ve chosen “Eowyn” and if I ever do the same to another coach it will be called “Arwyn”

Nice work Victor. Repaint dooes help

WoW! Looks real nice Vic.

…grinning…
