…the weather was absolutely great. So I decided to drive the 50 miles over to Jens Bang’s Snake River RR in Spirit Lake ID. He and I had a great time running our passenger trains and taking pictures. I thought I’d share a few of them here. My BNSF business train headed by an Amtrak Genesis crosses a large gorge.
Then it passes over Jens’ UP employees summer special.

While I don’t prefer dismals, they sure have pretty colorful paint jobs.

I tend to like anything that runs on rails. But I’m finding my tastes are beginning to develop a little differently. I find that dismals are great to travel with and for day to day operations because they tend to be quite reliable and less fragile than steam locomotives. I also like them better for standard guage. But I’m finding that with steam, I prefer narrow guage over standard guage. I’m still in the process of fighting with myself over how to handle this on a layout.

Do what we do, and have two seperate operations. We alternate; one weekend is a Standard gauge operation, and the next is Narrow gauge. Two seperate fleets of rolling stock, and seperate fleets of locomotives.
Warren , I leave the layout really generic looking , plants mostly , and get out and run whatever , from the late 1800’s up to bullet trains , US and Euro , BUT NEVER TOGETHER , at the same time . Now with the catenary up , it is making me not wanting to do this whatever time period and place though , I may have to sell some items , maybe . Even I have my limits , but they do streach a lot .
