Welcome to Armageddon and/or nuclear winter

Yup, that there is what usually happened here in western Pa. But it usually happens before now.

Weather has been nuts here too this year. We had late spring temps in February, then January deep freeze in March. Yesterday was the first over 60 day in a long time and today is a winter weather advisory. Yesterday I took advantage of the sunshine and cleaned up the front yard and the railroad. 9 bags of leaves and pine tree debris. About three times normal. Back yard is full of large branches yet to be dealt with.

Ended up with about 1". Still flurries this morning, but nothing that really counts. Starting Monday it goes back into the 50s and 60s later on in the week. (Just in time for work (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-yell.gif))

We also have had the up and down temps. Good thing is no snow and glade I no longer live in KS. Later RJD

Jon, after you get your’s done, stop by and help out at the Feather Creek Ranch. Free beer and pizza. (https://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

There is, to a point, a certain pleasure in raking leaves. Especially on one of those glorious sunny fall days. And then that connects with memories of Dad, my brother, and I doing summer yard work in Georgia and spending all day outside in the heat and humidity and Mom would bring us fresh cold tea and all kinds of good stuff for snacks and lunch and even some snacks for our dogs, who of course loved being together with us.

(was one dog at a time though, beagle who died at 13, man he was a character, sat on his doghouse roof and everything, and then a rescue collie who went from show dog to puppy mill to rescue to lady jock - if there were sports count her in!)

Dad was in Navy and literally spent half is career at sea in between moving just about every second year so those 4 straight years of shore duty at area recruiting headquarters in Macon, Georgia, were a special treat. Yes, yard work was sometimes grungy work and at times there were things I’d rather be doing, but, hey, we had our family together, and that mattered a bunch.

I do have to say that there were some grand times that we would be talking about life, the universe, and everything, while edging the driveway the old fashioned way with only muscles powering the clippers and garden spades (this was the 1970s) and dealing death to dandelions.

If when the chores were done we had been able to relax around a garden railway and just sit and watch the trains make laps while the sun set …
