Large Scale Central

This is the place for blowing off steam

So here I am .
I mentioned a little while ago that my son was making another steamer .
He was doing such a good job of it and looking forward to joining in here and showing his thing off . Now , he’s gone and done it .
HE’S GOT A GIRL FRIEND .And deadly serious it is too , engaged and all that sloppy stuff . Where’d I go wrong ? You can’t love a woman more than a steam engine . I gotta have words with that boy , what’s he doin’ 38 years old and rushin’ round like a teenager . He cleans his teeth so often he gets a new toothbrush every week .
He’s put super recliner seats --in his LANDROVER!!! What cissy trick is that , huh ?
Anyway , I’m thinking of confiscating his steam project , it just needs a bit of paint before assembly . He ain’t even gonna notice , he’s plumb outta his head .
So I shall be posting some photys here soon with a bit of luck . If’n ah doan burn mah fingus agin .
cheeeeeezz , had to tell sumbody
Mike

Mike,
Hurry and switch his toothpaste with some steam oil. It may not be too late yet. If the steam oil doesn’t work, then it’s too late.
Congrats to him. I hope his bride-to-be is a train lover because as soon as the honeymoon is over he’ll be back looking for his engine. It’s in the blood you know!

Fred ,
I shall try the steam oil , though he was using it on his hair , he was so keen . There may be light at the end of the tunnel . He has downloaded his camera into the computer and it has pics of he and his lady ogling at museum rail stuff . Now we have to wait to see , is she just being polite , or is it genuine sharing ? I must admit , she seems to be very keen to share in his hobbies , and particularly likes off-roading in the Landrover . Hmmm… Shows promise . I shall keep you informed . And of course , either way , with John Bouck’s help again , you shall see the engine on this very platform .
Why has that pale gaunt worried look just come over John’s face ?
Mike

Mike, Show him–or more to the point, her–my wife’s project.

http://www.mylargescale.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=27875 Get her involved, and she’ll be able to change is toothpaste to steam oil without him noticing. Later, K

Mike - snatch up his steam project. He’ll never notice missing until a long time from now!

Mike… maybe the steam oil that we have been using on the deccapod will help… ms.freddie loves the smell of it… she was sorta interested in the large scale… loved riding the full size trains… but when we went to chattanooga to pick up decci… while she was riding the layout (they were being pulled by a dismal)… she said she loved it when they would get a whif of the steam engine…

Mo-reese ,
By a strange coincidence , Martyn took his lady love to a steam railway , and she said they smelled nice . He said what smells nice and she said the engines . He said he got one or two at home and she said bring ‘em heah , boy , so he now gotta make up the one he ain’t finished .
I’ll kill her before I let him take his engine away , stealin’ mah boy is one thing , but stealing the staff of life is another . She dun wrong . Watch the noos for headlines about raving englishman kills for love of steam .
You read it here first .
Mike
ps that’s the trouble with havin’ way too much time on mah hands , ah gets carried away . I should be , some say .

Kevin ,
I just noticed that my reply to your post is missing–it would be safe to assume that I did not hit the "submit " button .
Now , a question , is that machine a self propelled steam cart of the TRICYCLE arrangement ? If so , you have got good reason to have a third central rail as on older models . Is this a genuine older model designed to run on three rails ? We need to know , Kevin . And is all the rolling stock in the same wonderful colour scheme ?
A fine looking machine like that ought to be provoking more discussion . Perhaps the so called railfans on this site are not partial to tea with their operations .
Nice one , Kevin , pour me a cup while you’re here .
Mike

…Discovered a long time ago; that women folk will lie like heathens to entice fools into their traps…case in point…take a perfectly good tea pot and try to force it into a railroad man’s hand…Tea is Tea, and should be respected, but is NOT a locomotive…
Locomotives are not meant to be cute…and men should be aware of women saying nice things about their hobby, especially before marriage.

The next thing to happen after marriage is the pleading whine of a woman saying…it’s either me or your durn grubby friends…case closed…

Mike....safe to say.....give the 38 year old a case of Single Malt (Laphroaig for it's medicinal properties) for a wedding present, and take the loco and hide it from harm.....within 30 days of the return from his funeral....er honeymoon; the loco will be forgotten and it will be yours. The 38 year old will soon turn 50, after 9 months, and age farther while watching the calving, and toileting of the offspring.

You meanwhile, being the grandfather; should live far enough away that visits are well planned, and the loco doesn’t get mixed up in conversation…

It can be yours, with careful planning and very little effort.....

By golly Fred , you’re right .
She also has him on a diet , why do wimmin do that ? . Anyway , he is already showing signs of weakness through lack of good food . I mean , where’s the good in lettuce leaves and thin slices of ham ? Lettuce leaves is good for rabbits -there may be a connection there -anyway , he’s a truck driver amongst other things , so you can imagine he is fairly robust . Greasy spoon cafe’s are more his dish , perhaps the cold turkey effect of the diet will sharpen his senses , so I gotta watch it .
And , by the way, she has dual US/UK citizenship , her family all live in the US . So Martyn may come a-visitin’ .
We best be careful .
Mike
ps I have carefully packed the loco in question away , it’s under my bed right now ,I gotsta keep it safe , you understand ?

Success !!!
I mentioned the Steam Loco to him today while he was all glassy eyed about sump’n soppy .
He just said " you might as well finish it " .
I nearly dropped my Garratt in shock . Recovered quickly , and said ( chancing my arm )
“Son , ah cain’t do 'em as good as what you cain ,ya shewer now ?”
" Yes , paw " he said "between mah gal an’ mah Lan’rover , ah’m a mite bizzy "
Well , shucks , I gotta support the boy , so Ah magnanimously said
" I’ll make it for you son "
" Thanks , Daddy " he said . That’s when ah noo there was sump’n rong . He nevah calls me daddy .
Well , he’s old enuff to sort hisself out , so it’s mine .
Hehehehe .
Mike

OH GAWD!!! She has her hooks deep into him now!!!

Mike…Bart…

It would be great to hear the latest episode of the “Live Steamer Under The Bed”; to say nothing of how the bonds of wedlock are affecting you, Bart.

This thread has been long neglected…

Fred ,
I shall try posting pics of what stage it’s at .
Didn’t want to post a reply before , 'cos poor Bart seemed so shocked to realise THEY have mysterious powers . I wanted to wait to give him the good news that the loco is MINE , MINE , YOU HEAR ? OOOPs . Sorry , got carried away there . And some say I should be .
Must go and locate things .
Back soon ,
Mike
ps
Fred , you should be helping Bart with some medication to get him over the trauma . A wee dram a day keeps the doctor away . Aye.

Mike;
Bart is known to indulge in quantities of “Famous Grouse”, a blend that is well known. He is also known to enjoy some good bheers, that are foeign to his part of the country. In other words; the young lad has reasonable tastes, considering what his neigbours consider as “Sunday punch” !!!

The kids seem to grow out of the hobbies of their youth but the itch caused by the steam bug will never stop! First you do feel something else but you´ve to go back to it soon as reality and normality comes back into life. until than you call that crazy little thing L O V E ! And when they really love each other she gets invoved in his hobby and can make some compromises. Jay, a forum friend , some of you knew him definatly ; had to decide between the lady and his live steam equippement : He sells most of his steam related stuff! I hope for him that his decission was a good one !

cheers Joe
