About 10 years ago I came across an engineering book on steam power, written in the 1870s I believe. The first words in the first chapter were “Boilers explode”.
Wish I had bought it at the time. I dont even remember the name now.
Boilers exploding on steamboats is what is said to have delayed westward expansion until after the War of Northern Aggression.
People that seal the overflow valves on their hot water heaters also find out that boilers can explode
