Thinning the Herd

I’m doing fine (REALLY!!! ), but as I look at all the locomotives that I have, I find I only run a few as my favorites. So, maybe MY non-favorites can be your new favorite? (I sure hope so!)

Anyway, I think I need to get rid of some I never run - and maybe help somebody out? I do NOT desire to ship these, so… maybe pickup in Illinois (I’ll be in Nashville in October), or at the ECLSTS, or TrainOps in Massachusetts - next July? The BEST alternative is to come to my place and operate, but, HOLY MOLY!, the HUMIDITY has been something else this year! (It WILL get better! )

Here’s what I have up for “bid”:

  • A Bachmann 2-8-0 Consolidation. Complete with carrying case and BBT drive. Phoenix sound card and Revolution receiver. 14.4V Lithium Ion battery. Smooth runner. $650.
  • An Accucraft Live Steam Shay. Complete with fuel and carrying case. $1250. Sold!
  • A really cool locomotive - my Narrow Gauge Mikado. Comes with a carrying case, and includes a Phoenix sound card and Revolution receiver. 14.4V Lithium Ion battery. Dang, that WAS fun to build! $950.

So, if you’re interested, I’m hoping we can work out a deal! And, if you see something ELSE on my site, maybe we can discuss? (I like to think I’m pretty reasonable, but history doesn’t always back me up! )

Is the Connie with the modified BBT drive with correct gearing?

Well, carp! I can’t even understand the question! (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-embarassed.gif)It does have gears…but I have never tested them to see if they are correct?

The original Connie gearing was wonky, and it would gallop instead of running smooth. I think the BBT drive fixed that, but I dont recall.

Well, do I feel silly. I don’t even know what a good price is,…although it appears that $199 million might be a tad too high.(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-embarassed.gif)

Bruce,

When I casually mentioned getting maybe one live steam loco to Linda, she said:“over my dead body will you get into another hobby.”

So much for that. Except that shay sure looks nice…

Cliff,

I have a similar problem… My wife keeps encouraging me to join the local 7.5" gauge club, but she says I have to sell all of my other trains…

A live steam Shay is on my wish list, someday.

Wow…The Mikado would be the “first” out here since the OR&L retired theirs in 1948! No way I could afford modifying the Triple O to accommodate her…even if I could secure CINCHOUSE’s permission to re-home her!

Beautiful work, by the way. I regret no having perused your website earlier!

Looks like I have to add some prices. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-embarassed.gif)

  • Shay $1250
  • Mikado $950
  • Connie $650

Something I should have mentioned earlier: ALL electrics are powered by 14.4 V Lithium Ion batteries. They have a Phoenix sound card and a Revolution receiver.

When we began thinking of making a change in our lives, Jan was quick to let me know I needed to get rid of some of my trains. Many people here and in our area benefited from my reduction of inventory. I wish them well, but every once in awhile, I sure do wish I still had some of those items. Think carefully of getting rid of those prize possessions you may quickly pass on. On the other hand, you could just will them to me. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)That way, you could enjoy them until your demise. By the way, how’s your health holding up?

I’m good…I don’t think I’ll be missing any of these (right! (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)) as I haven’t run them for so long. (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-embarassed.gif)

I’ve sold items when my interest moved from one hobby to another. I can blame this on having too many hobbies. But, I can say I look back and regret selling most all those things I’ve sold in the past. Now we’re selling a 5 bedroom house and have purchased a 3 bedroom house. Downsizing? Well, for the house yes, but while the old place has a 30x24 shop an the new place does not, the plan is to add onto the new house and have as big or bigger shop area. So, at this point, I’m not selling any of my toys. In fact, I’m still buying. It’s a sickness my wife will have to deal with when I’m gone.

Thanks, now I can go back to my regular daydreaming …

edit: I’m a train horder, happened the day Dad gave away ‘my’ Lionel Pennsy Turbine and switched me to a Tyco General! (Still have it in storage)

As Navy lifers our memories were subject to weight restrictions. To say we traveled … 8 schools in 8 years …

And you probably run the ones your keeping more at other peoples layouts than on your own…

Well, since Bruce’s health is okay, so he says, I guess I won’t need to expect any packages from Jean or their lawyer for awhile and can use the space for something else. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Well crud. Now I need to get a lawyer? I’ve made it this far without one…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-embarassed.gif) (and I’ve been eating bacon, too! (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif))

Shay is sold! (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)Updated the original entry to add some pictures and a few more details.

Some additional photos…

OK. That’s just the case, but it shows how the door/gate lowers down to let the locomotive out onto the track.

And…maybe a video, courtesy of Youtuble???
