Large Scale Central

Thinking about build a scale down coaling tower. Need some input

With something that big, you could have a hidden door with interior shelves to store rolling stock.

John, I love your coaling tower. I may attempt to copy it.

That’s flattering. If you go that route, I have drawings 4U. Meanwhile here’s another one to drool over…

This would be such a big modelling job that I’m glad I found it only AFTER I’d built my own… … or I’d never finish.

Nice work Daniel!
A TIG is on my wish list not to mention the other cool tools you got to play with
…:)…

get the miller dyanisty 200 dx.

I am going to spool gun over 1/2 of this were I can much faster and cheaper.

What a cool idea. I like it!

Looking at building a shelves and a sliding tray and make the BIG roof section removable.

OK Daniel I have a question. Why do you want a “BIG” coaling station for steam locomotives when all I see in pictures of your layout is “BIG” colorful diesels? I’m just curious.

BTW let us know how your spool gun works on the aluminum sheets. I just purchased a new Mig welder that has the capability of adding an aluminum spool gun to it.

Chuck

I used a spool gun for years and they work fine got to use argon thou not a mix gas like I would use on steel… we use them in sign shops all the time I do have around 10 steamers I do not run but now and then, 3 mallets, 2 pacifics, 2 mikado, 2 c16, annie, and a few 040.

Here’s 2 of my steamers, I think it would look alsome with the 3 mallets under the coaling tower. The main reason I am building it cause you do not see something like this on a every day layout. I going to build a 50" min turntable and round house for the mallets and all the steam engines soon too, and for the layout and a transfertable for some of the newer stuff.

Nice picture of your steamers. Is that part of your layout? It’s a great looking scene.

Chuck

Daniel: WOW, beautiful! More pics of your pike, please!!!

These are Daniel’s engines. Probably a trestle he’s built. But I’m pretty sure it’s not his layout, Ralph

not my layout but my bridge and engines…

ok… Going to the water jet cutters today to drop off material for the build 1/8 4 by 10 sheets (2)… Should have the parts next week and start welding… Pics to follow.

I’m watching this with interest, Dan’l. I notice that if we were signed up to follow a thread on the old site, we have to re-sign here now. So you prolly should post again soon so the others will see it and get on board. Cheers!

Sorry Dan, I just dont think you will like it  It doesn’t fit with what your doing :frowning: now this one would be a better fit for you and me and I think this is the one you should build for us. Just sayin…

Plus It will be cheaper and easier for you to ship me one:)

I look at this one everyday from work…there is talk that it might get demolished as part of a n intermodal facility that is being built adjacent to it…used to have a pair of steel 50,000 gallon water tanks at that point too…

Can you get me some good pic and measurement of the one you see every day???

I could build 2 of them…

Well I can get pics…but mind you it spans a double track mainline with a couple other accessory tracks and is prolly a hundred feet tall, plus…
