I think you need proper statistics like those the airlines are required to report, so you can find out how often your flight has been late in the past. A one-day snapshot isn’t very scientific.
And it does go to show the problems of co-existing on a freight railroad. Many of those delays are ‘freight train interference’ or ‘track problems’. Not under Amtrak’s control.
Not very scientific at all, but when YOU are on the train, it is duly noted. As I recall, we were late in both directions. On the way down to New Orleans we were stopped for a LONG time waiting to clear a tree that had fallen across the track. Yep, not under Amtrak’s control, but I couldn’t help thinking that it would be very nice if Amtrak trains carried a chainsaw on board to deal with such contingencies…but I was only a paying ($$$$$$$) customer, so what do I know?
