Large Scale Central

There's less there than meets the eye (the scale versus size iss

I needed a couple of easy chairs for the parlor of my hotel, so I measured one of the chairs in our living room and built a mockup based on measurements converted to 1:22.5 Well, the chair came out looking tiny–like a baby’s chair–when I placed it in the hotel “room.” So I decided to wing it and built another chair out of balsa and basswood (I have a supply and it’s easy to carve), ignoring any dimensions and just making it look right. Much better. I sprayed the chair(s) with automotive primer and will cover them with Woodland Scenics turf, which looks like chair fuzz.

If I can get a photo to load here, enjoy. If not, “Help!”

Nope. Didn’t work. Sorry.

Hmmmm interesting concept.

If everything is to (the same consistent) scale than it should look just like it would in real life, however you are in good company. :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: It has been a longstanding tradition/practice in Large Scale to “adjust” things for “pleasing proportions” and never mind scale.

As some wags would put it “scales are for fish”.

Everything I build is done by eye. I dont measure anything. Seems when I do it never comes out right lol

Joe, If you use Windows, this article by Bruce Chandler should help with the pictures. http://www.largescalecentral.com/articles/view.php?id=96

Do not edit out your “failed” attempts to post pictures.
Usually somebody can figure out what you’ve done wrong if we can see the results.

I'm pretty much the same way ;)

Hope you get the pics figured out Joe we love pictures here!

OK, I read Bruce’s “How to post a photo.” Now let’s see if I can follow instructions.

Nope.

When I click on My Files at the bottom of the Reply area I get a screen that says “Available Files” and has the image I musta got in there somehow. It reads “chairs.jpg” which is what I named it. My options are to click Browse or Upload, so I click Upload 'cause I got nothing to Browse for since the image is already in my shed or whatever. Anyway, clicking Upload doesn’t do anything I can see (no image auotmatically pops up next to my typed message). Nor does an image appear after I hit “Send.” All’s I get is my words with that little photo box with a red X in it.

See, here’s what I love about my iPhone. I take a picture (a dang good one too, 8 meg), hit e-mail, type in the address and a message or whatever and click Send. I’m asked to size the photo (small, medium, large), make my choice, hit send again and “Zoom,” off she goes.

Sorry to be so obtuse, but this is maddening.

Thanks anyway.

Go to you “Myfiles”, place your curser over the file you want and a picture of it appears, place your curser over the picture and “right click” on it, and window should appear with several options, click on “Copy Image Location”, then paste that where you want it. What I just did with this image is clicked on the file and it pasted it self in the reply box here.

Since it’s the OP asking I don’t feel like I am “high-jacking” the thread…

Photobucket it annoyingly simple. If you upload photos to PB there are “clickable” links with specific purposes. One of them is “on-line forums”. You click and it copies the image in the appropriate size for forum use. Click-Paste. Easiest way I have found to date.

Ken, maybe I have the Walmart version of Windows Vista, but when I right click on the image in “My Files,” I get the standard MS menu, whose executable options (the ones that aren’t grayed out) include: Save Picture As, Print, Go to My Pictures, Set as background, Copy, Add to Favorites, Go To AOL Search, Properties. I see no “Copy Image Location,” as you stated. I also checked in the Train Shed and my image, called “chairs.jpg” is in there. And it pops up readily when I click on “My Files,” but that’s where the train goes off the tracks.

As for downloading Power Toys, the last time I did that with my previous computer, things did not go well and I swore I would never try anything like that again. Besides, if it’s a matter of resizing the photo (not an issue in this case as it is plenty small), I have Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, Elements and CS5, any one of which will allow me to resize an image and store it.

Sorry to be so bitchy, but I feel like I’m spinning my wheels here, guys. :frowning:

Joe, Click on the “Properties”, it’ll give you the “URL” (http://www.etc ) of the picture location. Highlight that, then do a “copy” and “paste”…try that and see what happens…

Where there’s a will, there’s a way…

Double click(left) and a Window will pop up asking if you want to copy it to your clipboard. Click yes, then “paste” it into your post.
Ralph

I’ll try it, Ralph

On second thought…

Thank you all. That was easy, heh, heh. BTW, the actual chairs turned out pretty good until I covered them with flock, trying to make 'em look like upholstery. But it doesn’t matter because they are buried inside my hotel’s interior where they can’t be seen unless I put lights inside. Next time. remind me never to do another interior unless it’s a store with a display window or something.

Those fuzzy chairs-- Thankk goodness nobody can see 'em because it looks like rats chewed on 'em. Still, I think it’s a valid concept.

Hey Joe, good to see you around again.

Actually I don’t think they look bad at all. Upholstery close to that heavy was popular for a time in the 1950s. Another thing you might try is texture spray in a spray can then when dry spray an upholstery color of your choice over it. That’ll give a texture that’s not nearly as heavy as the flock you used.

C’mon, Dick, how on earth would a young snipperwhapper like you remember the 50’s? I have trouble remembering where the door is, let alone youfolstery from the middle of the last century.

Joe,
Good to see you have the pictures figured out
I detailed the interior of one building.
I’ve not seen the interior since I took the photos
