Large Scale Central

There's always something new

Hi all,

Much to my surprise someone in Germany starts a new magazine. The mag is called “012 - Express” and is exclusively for the larger scales, namely “0” (1:45) “1” (1:32) and “2” (1:22.5).
Clearly aimed at the model railroader - on their website they even mentioned that they won’t cover garden railways, since there are enough mags for that segment - it reminds me somewhat of a German version of “Fine Scale Railroader”. I wish them well!!!

It will be interesting to see if the trends are really running in a different direction in Europe. Time will tell!

Another magazine I can’t read…:frowning: Stuck with nothing but Klambake…!

Oh, well, when you're stuck with klams, make chowdah. Or spaghetti alle vongole.

Or
Clam Bake
For a party of 8 plan on layering:

8 baking or sweet potatoes
8 ears of corn
8 onions
8 chicken halves
8 live lobsters
4 to 8 dozen clams

Cooking instructions on the Net, somewhere. Corn you can find here  Wot, wrong kind of corn … ?

I think I’ll go back to my Cheerio’s …

Yup, only Klambake…and I’m not bothering with Garden Railways any more…I found I was only buying it to see what was new, and very little new stuff is of interest to me. I’m bored by “Roundy-Roundies”, and another shot of mas built buildings. I’m fed up with “The typical garden railroad”.

I still buy NG&SLG, but sometimes I wonder why.

I guess I'm winding down. I'm not even planning on the ECLSTS this year.....only went to meet a few friends for the last couple of years; the show is the same old.....same old.
Last thing I need is more equipment.

I’m staying home to enjoy what I have.

We finally get “the after hours jam session” down to a true science of showing off the great modeling done by some of the guys, with two rooms side by side, a place for Carl to snooze, plenty of room to party, enough chairs and even Millie had a place to get away from Fred, and now he says he isn’t going. It must be true, you can never go home again.

I think I just feel sick.

Ric,

Today is Grumpy Monday for Fred, he’ll be OK by the time the “whatever” rolls around.

BTW speaking of Klambake, the lady of the house brought home some reading material from the library, including “How to build realistic layouts” with a pretty-good article on signals.

Shockingly for the first time in 4 years I am in complete agreement with Fred in every aspect with that post.

Especially with one’s poor battered synapses being assailed by the same old stuff.

Fr. Fred

I’m with ya.

My New Year’s Resolution is to not renew any train magazines or train club memberships…I’m done…I have a Small Circle of Friends and they are the best.

The Lone Railroader

Wow, even though I can understand some of the feelings and opinions in this thread, I think you all sound very sad. With posts of this nature, how are WE going to get our children and grandchildren hooked on the worlds greatest hobby? I for one am ashaimed of this kind of post. You can all tell your friends what you think and how you feel over a beer and a cigar, but why on earth would you post it for all to see? The kids of this day and age have enough negitivity to take in. They are suposed to be able to look up to us and enjoy our stories so they know how to do the same when they grow up. If any of you are that tired of the hobby, why can’t you just sit back and retire. That way you can complain about real problems like taxes, medicare and what your dinner tasted like.

Just MY 2 cents worth!!!

It’s time to enjoy life the best we can, not look for things to @itch about.

That’s why I keep the “Remote Volume Control” handy, even if it’s a different gauge than we run…

While this is a forum accessible to the general public, it is a meeting place for us within the hobby to get together and tell our friends how we feel. Many of us consider each other friends even though we are thousands of miles apart. And sometimes we have to express our disappointment with what manufacturers and publishers do. And once in a while they do listen and the problems get solved. Also please note the "warning" that is at the front door of this forum. This is basically our "pub" where we can come and talk openly about our train related feelings and thoughts. Life is not always a bed of rose petals and neither is the hobby. There are numerous other forums on this board that are very upbeat and informative.

I belong to 3 different boards, and even though they are accessible to the general public I feel they are more a meeting place for those already in the hobby to exchange ideas and knowledge…both positive and not so positive :/. There are numerous other websites that exist for the promotion of the hobby to the general public. [MHO]
