There are advantages to modelling NA proto

… SIGH!

It isn’t one of the acrylic boxes I’m wrapping styrene around to build a boxcar - same principal, though.
Since the RhB is definitely metric, so are the sub assemblies required for frames, the spacing of the boards on the walls etc. etc.

So it’s back to “good old” i.e. assemble U-channels from styrene strips, score the board intervals at the correct spacing etc. etc. Good thing that I have proper drawings!

BTW the “box” started out as a Bachmann kit, acquired when everyone wanted to get rid of the stuff at deal prices (ca. '99). Eight years later …

I can’t find the pictures…

There aren't any.

tac

Pictures? For what?

Everyone knows how to fit styrene sides to a pre-existing box and everyone knows how to assemble structural profiles from styrene strips. :stuck_out_tongue:  :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s the problem…there aren’t any…and there needs to be…:stuck_out_tongue:

Yes, but HJ's photos come in metric sizes, and won't work on a North American computer.

See! SEE! I knew it!

Dear Friends,

OK, let me see, by rights the pictures should be only 1/25 the size. Pictures coming up in a minute! It will be “strain your eyes and eat your heart out” time. :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

How is this?

that is one of the U-channels of the frame in METRIC resolution.  :stuck_out_tongue:

Pictures are the only proof you have that you are really building something and not just BSing us…:stuck_out_tongue: Besides, I might want to admire your work…if there is any. :expressionless:

Sheesh Warren,

I have hardly any spare time for the fora, that’s how busy I am working on my RhB stuff!

Thank goodness for smiley faces

I think I need my hip boots…:stuck_out_tongue:

I knew that would get your attention.

OK, pictures #1 the U-channel for the frame

#2 End wall

#3 Scribing the sidewall

I scribe the styrene with a carbide scriber in the height gauge, allows for accurate increments and goes reasonably efficient since I start at both ends and work to the middle.

Cool!

That scriber/height gauge seems like a very handy tool.

Ray,

Yes it is. I also use it to scribe the width of whatever strips I want to cut (non standard ones), the scribed line allows the knife to follow nicely and snapping the styrene gets me within between .004 and .008 to what it should be. And every once in a while it is spot on.

Well it sure is more fun building something to 1:22.5 scale instead of explaining how and why one arrives at any scale.

Door closed

Door open I believe once upon a time I bought some hole punches but where oh where did I put them? Haven’t needed them since arriving in BC, so in order to make the two rollers at the bottom of the door I used a piece of brass tubing, sharpened it, heated it and the it cut the styrene just like butter. Still need to scribe the boards on the door deeper to match the walls.

Ah, yes. More piccies. It’s looking good HJ. One question though. Do Swiss box cars only have a door on one side or are you making the door on the other side non operational?

Do they haul elephants in those, I see poop inside?
