Yesterday Rick the Railroad Guy attempted the world’s record for pulling the longest train. It occurred towards evening last night, and his attempts were a “NO GO”. The reason as I understand it was he did not have enough operators to produce a winning pull, believe he said he got 7 of the trains to pull but needed to get i believe 21 going and just not enough operators to mind the logistics of the pull. He stated he had to fly to Chicago today and by the time he got back to Arizona, it would be too hot, and the next attempt according to him would be in October. Posted this for you guys over here who don’t go elsewhere and may not know of the outcome yesterday. I spoke to him on the phone personally yesterday said they were selling the 5 piece intermodler sets Before a successful pull at $300 and if successful would be $500 and the engines i believe he stated were set up for battery, and locolink installed and they were $1200, and after successful attempt would jump to either $1500 or $1800. You can contact Rick by phone which is listed on his site for further information! Now that attempt was unsuccessful, and he is going to attempt again in October, I don’t expect him to sell anything until right up until next attempt i would guess. At any rate I wish him all the" success" in the world he is working real hard to complete this task in a winning fashion!. The Regal
Talked to Rick the RR guy personally today Sat the 10th, he did not get away to Chicago like he thought, but will leave tomorrow. Visited with him about yesterday, and he said" If i could get you to convey" ONE" thing to the railroad public it would be that i would ask you to try to convey to them or "light a fire under them"instill a passion for them to help him in this effort and get them committed with me to this “world record attempt” he stated he will try again in October when it cools down! He needs many many people to help with this effort, so if you can volunteer your time and your passion in this hobby to him in October give him a call at 1-602-501-7553 and give him a commitment to this effort and then honor the commitment by being there in October. His problem this time as stated by him was he was promised alot of help, and it didn’t show like anticipated. So if you can and want to help give him a shout out and “Be There in October” The Regal
I’m not an expert, I wasn’t there, and it’s cheap and easy to criticize from a distance. My hat’s off to the guy for trying. So that puts my comments in proper perspective. But it seemed to me that his way of going about it was kind of crazy. Way too many locos, and way too many operators. I think he needed 20 some operators? Or as it 18? Either way, that’s a lot of human error and it only take some guy being slow on the throttle to derail the thing. How do you communicate among 20 people stretched out over 1000 feet? The speed of sound alone would be enough to mess you up.
IMHO–and again, my comments are worth little, offered here just for the sake of discussion–it’d be better to try this with some form of track power/DCC, so you could get it down to one throttle, one set of commands. But he built that Railway, he does this for a iiving, I don’t

mike as i understand it from Rick that was the problem he needed 20+ people and only 7-8 showed up! He’s better equipped to answer your questions. Give him a call all the armchair quarterbacking in the world is less than helpful than the actual guy who was there and knows the problems first hand or the answers, and I’m sure he would welcome any constructive help or critique!!
