This will be a wonderful weekend. I had some laser work on my eye yesterday and got much improved eyesight!
This weekend I will be leveling track, ballasting, trimming plants and painting buildings! The bridges are already done.

Good to hear! But now you will see more things to do.

Doug,
That’s good news on your eyesight! Went to my eye surgeon a week ago Thursday and he found some “leakage” in my good eye. Had to have the unjection. I hate when that happens!
BTW, if you can make it “over the hill”, we are having our Spring Meet at Los Angeles Live Steamers this weekend. I will be there on Saturday. I believe you have my cell number. Just give me a call if you decide to come down.
It would figure that this is the first Memorial day weekend I had off from work in years and all it is going to do is RAIN…the entire weekend!
Had plans to continue on with the new railroad build but it looks like maybe Monday we may get a few hours in as that is looking to be the only good day.
Very glad to hear about the eyesight Doug! Hope you have a great weekend. Been a bit damp up here/
Good news Doug.
Great news! I had eye surgery back in March…thought it was gonna be quite involved for a detatched retina but ended up that the laser took care of the extra blood vessels, and they just had to remove from scar tissue…went from legally blind back to 20/20 in the right eye. Its a fantasatic gift to be able to see isn’t it?
This weekend officially begins trackwork for me, I havnt ran a train since July 4th, so theres lots of work to do. Turnout maintenace being the bigone…hope to get the loop in service this weekend and the operations trackage in the following weeks…
Doug, are you holding an open house this year?
Good to hear about the success with the eye surgery Doug.
John, now that I;m seeing so much better and the foot is behaving I’d like to do an open house in October. It’s normally a nice month on the desert. I need to set a date.
Our month is free, does anyone have a particular weekend?
Remember my offer I will come over the weekend before and help ballast track, etc.
I will get my ballast supply
built up! Thanks!
Way to go John Miller! I just had the club (Backyard Railroaders) over here for a work session, and we got a bundle of stuff done. Doug, I’m thrilled that your eye is much improved! Enjoy! … And your foot, too. Excellent news!
I’ll have to look at some of my old magazines and see if I have any of the articles he wrote.
I was an HO modeler when he was alive and I still think of him.
I wonder if I can build a swayback boxcar in g scale?
You bet Doug! I swear that must be his trademark. It seems practically everyone thinks of that when his name comes up. He did a great swayback stockcar as well.
There was also Sorefeetz the Mexican bandito, the hanging diesel salesman, and Emma the dinosaur, I think she was loco number 2, but I might have her number wrong.
Also mirrors, floor to ceiling scenery, and a whole bunch of amazing photographs.
I bet I left out a few things too. Oh, the Timesaver, the ball-bearing-equipped inertia car, the burnt-out fire extinguisher company, Linn (Westcott’s) Mangled Manuscripts, the Compressed Gas Co…
He always regretted having painted the clouds on his backdrop, by the way, and in some of his pictures you can see why, but everything else more than made up for it. There are one or two painters’ errors in leonardo DaVinci’s work as well, so wot the heck…
…
On July 2, his old NMRA section is holding a group JAM Breakfast on the left coast… We’re doing one up here in Toronto. Hope you’ll be able to celebrate down there too, Doug!
Cheers.
