The Tunnels

Yeah, so what’s that got to do with gardening? A whole lot!

As you can see the basic tunnels are done. I used cheap concrete blocks 8x16x4, levelled the first rows, drove the rebars through the spaces in the blocks, mixed some concrete and filled the spaces. Bit of concrete on the top face; on goes the next row using the same routine. Put the concrete slabs (12x24) on top of mortar, then mortar the joints and let set.

Crusher chips are in the tunnel space, the portals will follow much later. Now it’s back to hauling rock and gravel to build that mountain - that’s where the gardening comes in - and the waterfall.

Boy, there’s no “UNDO” in those tunnels, is there, HJ? Looks good. You are putting me to shame!

You have a bomb shelter to park those locomotives in now!
Ralph

Wait til you see the rock piled on it!

You know , if they built houses down south like some of us build our railroads,. There would be alot less hurricane damage ! Nice Work.

Saturday and Sunday were plain too hot, Sunday was 38ºC (100ºF). Time to work on something cooler. Today looks like a repeater.

Just to the south of you it is only 78F at 1234 Pacific Daylight Time. Must be Global Warming.

It looks like you are using mortar to hold those rocks. I say that from the appearance of the second photo. If so, you have done well, because the first photo looks like dry stack. Will you eventually be softening the rocks with plantings?

BZ.

No mortar so far, all dry stack. The mortar/concrete will be used for the water course. Yes, the plan is to have plenty of green on those rocks, won’t happen overnight, but it will happen. One of the reasons for no mortar.

Looking good. I used cinder blocks for my tunnel with no mortar. The weight of the blocks is plenty to keep the tunnel from moving.

Thank you Shawn! Mine are the skinny 4" wide blocks and making it “bombproof” is sort of in my genes.
