Large Scale Central

The Tucson Western

Well I’ve been posting more on here so figured I should introduce myself a bit and put some pictures up of my humble layout. I’m 31, stay at home dad, back in school, and trying to run a small handy man business after being laid off for about a year and a half now. Been playing with trains for probably 30 of those years and been into large scale for the last five. My layout right now is a big mishaped dog bone and I have no idea how long a run it is. Something simple to watch the trains go round and round.

The info that I’ve gotten off of this site is priceless, thanks to everyone whos on here.

Welcome Peter …looks like your off to a great start …BTW…we love pictures!

Looking good Peter, and Welcome aboard. I’ll echo Rooster on the “We loke pictures”. Lots

Cool.
Nice to see your RR.
Ralph

Layout looks good and welcome aboard. Like Rooster said we love love pictures.

Peter welcome and that is one nice looking RR you have there.
As everyone has said. We love picture.

Very nice railroad Peter and welcome! Since everyone’s probably already given you the impression that we like photos I won’t say anything to the contrary.

Looks great! I fully understand your situation. Being unemployed gives you lots of time to do stuff, but no money to do it with!.. Kind of like living on disability.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Its gettin there, need to start workin on some more structures to fill it in a bit more. Stayin home with the little guy does have some benefits, all the Thomas the train I can stand lol, and at least I know whos raising him. But yeah no money to get much done with, been workin with what I have and sellin off other things to get what I need. It does help set some priorities though.

Hey, ya do what works. And it’s working

Nice start…looks real good so far…

i think, that being inventive and making something out of the things at hand can be much more satisfying, than just using the chequebook.

welcome!

I agree. When you dont have money you become more creative and use things that around the house. Whenever I go places Im always looking for junk pieces that I might be able to use.

Peter, very nice, simple and clean layout. I understand about work. Sucks. Fortunately you have your son to think about and get to know. That is pricelss.

Work is slow here to. Much worse than last year. My route is now down to 3 days a week. Doing busy work in the shop two days a week.
When the busy work runs out…I’ll be down to a 3 day paycheck. Tried to get the boss to lay me off for the Winter. But he says
his unemployment tax will go up. So I’ll be working, for less money than I’d collect on unemployment. But at least I still have a job and am thankfull for that.

Peter, nice looking layout… welcome aboard…

Welcome aboard.

Our desert have modeling challenges but I think I’m winning the good fight!

Your layout is looking good and even if we go slow we’re making progress. And that’s the fun of it!

My new task is figurung out how to light all my buildings with solar. I was going to go LED but I keep finding ways to adapt solar. It saves running wire very far!

Doug… solar at $3-4 per building

Yeah for the price of those solar lights you can’t beat them. Think I saw them at walmart for a 1.99 at one point. The few structures I do have are solid blocks of 2x4s. I do like Miks idea though, can’t get any simpler than that.

Lighting up the building on my RR was great. I love looking out at the RR at night and seeing all the buildings lighte up. I cant wait to see them in the snow with lights. Really brings the layout to life at night.
