The stream in my indoor layout : For Devon

Devon PM’d me and asked about the stream I built indoors some years ago. Um, 10 years ago now, well 9 1/2. I PM’d him back, but it broke all the picture links.

Well, let’s see. I built benchwork upside down to form planters:

Then I set a plastic tub into the base to hold water. Use a bigger one than this:

The stream bed was foam and plastic sheet. I put little dams in so the water didn’t just run down:

I put some rocks to disguise the bottom:

And then I accidently dropped a bucket of dirt on it:

This spilled the water on the power supplies. Not recommended. Put the water feature away from the power supplies.

I filled up the “planters” with dirt:

And added some hand made “Walasite” people:

I didn’t like Johnnie’s dung-colored hair, so I made him blond:

I don’t believe Clairol makes a hair dye in Dung color…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

Thanks Tom. I am going to consider it. Now you mention planters did you do live plants also?

If I had it to do again, I wouldn’t make ALL of it dirt, but mostly artificial. Was a little hard keeping the plants alive inside the windowless shop. I did have a big 12 ft overhead door on the east side. I kept that open any time the weather was nice. This led to an unexpected feature of the shop:

These two little girls found the box of track from the “Asylum” layout, and spent all afternoon rolling plastic wheelsets in the driveway apron. This became a popular activity as parents were train shopping or bs’ing.

Alas, I hit a spell where I couldn’t find a software project, and nobody would pay more than cost for anything train related. Hmm. Rather like now. “Would you like fries with that?”
