The Skunkworks is BACK! a Russell grader

I just couldn’t stand it any more. I simply HAD to build SOMETHING today… So I built me a nice little wagon type road grader. It was built with parts out of my scrapbox in about 3 hours. Basic frame is styrene, the wheels are cast aluminum, the blade brass and styrene

It’s loosely based on the Russell type which were made in Minneapolis

Looks right at home behind the Case

Mik that is a great model of the russel grader. Seen many of them over the years here in BC. As a matter of fact the local highways maintenance contractor has a restored one set out at their yard gate as a display.
Great model!

A John Deere grader. Very nice Mik!

Most industrial/construction equipment around the turn of the last century was commonly painted green or grey.

“Corporate colors” found on farm machinery was generally not carried over to the industrial lines, As an example, Edward Huber was notoriously frugal. While the farm tractors were green and red with gold lining, when he bought paint for his construction machines, he bought whatever the supplier had a quantity of at the lowest price… green, orange, yellow, blue, etc.

Nice work Mik. Want to try it our on a road on my layout?

Nice work, Mik…

Another nice build.

Great job Mik. Heck - I couldn’t have even painted that in 3 hours

Painting was 5 minute easy… cheapo rattle can Kelly Green… Too many little nooks that would have been a pita with a brush… after it dried it took another 10min or so to paint the wheels and blade

Wow, that turned out really nice!

Nice Mik. You must have a gigantic collection of fine scratchbuilt models. Every one a winner.
